FIGHT REPORT
April 1, 1977
Sue Fox vs. Darlene Arnold
(Inaccurate details in this report, but we believe it was Actually Charlene Anthony
was the opponents name)Las Vegas News  Copyrighted by Star-News,
Pasadena, California, dated 04/01/1977 - by Don Riley - Knoight News Wire

Would you believe that three weeks ago 'a middleweight feminine swatter from California won the "Fighter of the Month" honors?  Would you believe that women's bouts are now part of the famed Silver Slipper Wednesday night matches?

One thing you won't believe is their trainer. She's round and sweet and nervous as a cat on a tin roof in a hall storm. But get the best part. Her name is Dee Knuckles. "I love my girls and I don't Irain no bums," she informs. "My girls range from housewives lo school teachers. to secretaries to college kids. They run and train harder than the men. They are serious about the business."

That was clear after 1,100 fans jammed into the Silver Slipper upstairs ballroom and paid nearly $10,000 to watch the festivities which were clearly highlighted by the girls' bout.

Outside of chest protectors. The women fight with the equipment of the men.  You could feel the charge in the air when a pair of 137-pounders (Incorrect weight, I never fought at 137) climbed into the ring. One was a slinky brunette from Vegas named Darlene Arnold. As for Darlene's rival, was a 26-year-old pigtailed redhead, Sue [Fox].

Darlene surged out hammering. A variety of hooks — long and- short, diced with crosses to the head. Darlene was strictly  a head hunter. She overwhelmed red-headed Sue for the first two minutes but then Sue began digging heavy hooks along (the belt line and you could sense Darlene wincing at the bell.

In the middle of the second round, Sue opened up with a flurry of 30 punches that forced Darlene to retreat. They came from everywhere —. straight jabs, a marvelous upper cut, even a bolo from the bar in the rear...In the third round, Sue had a commanding edge the last two minutes, picking her spots with jabs to the head and two-fisted flailing to the midriff when Darlene was caught on the ropes: : Darlene's nose was bleeding in the fourth and one eye was swollen. Sue was red-faced to match her hair and seemed the apparent winner.

But, just like in men's tussles, the home towner from Vegas was awarded a draw. A few jeers — but mostly wild applause for the battle.
