Kim/Rivas set for 21st
By Ewan Whyte
September 22, 2005

(SEPT 22) According to the Executive Secretary of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaimán, Jazmín ("la Rusita") Rivas of Mexico (11-2, 5 KOs) will be challenging Kwang Ok Kim of North Korea for the WBC Bantamweight title in North Korea on the 21st October -- a fight originally scheduled for the 20th September.

Rivas, who is still only 17 and represented by triple world champion Erik ("Terrible") Morales, has been training hard for several months now at the Centro Ceremonial Otomí in preparation for the fight. Critical of her own performance in her last outing (in Ciudad Obregón last month), when she stopped the veteran Leticia Arévalo in the sixth round, Rivas told journalists she needed to punch from a more solid base and achieve greater continuity in attack. She also admitted she was hit on that occasion with a frequency inexcusable in view of her opponent's lack of mobility.

Kwang Ok Kim won the title with a points win over Shiro (Misa) Morimoto of Japan in North Korea on the 29th June.
