(OCT
27) Middleweight Shelley Burton (6-2) has faced champs before-- and
won. Although she is reluctant to compare pro boxing with the Tough
Woman competitions early in her fight career, the victories she
gained in her Tough Woman days gave Shelley confidence which is a
definite advantage in any sport. "I did the Tough Woman the first
time almost as a joke," Shelley said, " to win the extra money. Then
when I beat somebody that was an undefeated champ, I really started
to think about boxing. I’ve done all other sports, so I decided, why
not? My main goal is to be a professional athlete so I began
seriously training." Armed with that same confidence, Shelley is
ready to face Leatitia "Baby Girl" Robinson (13-0) November 18, on
the "A Ring of Their Own" World Title Wave card in Edmonton, Canada.
The event will be held at the Shaw Conference Center. Their bout is
scheduled for 10 rounds.
"Facing a champion like Leatitia and knowing I’m going against
the best brings out MY best," Shelley stated. "I haven’t
fought since March and she hasn’t fought since February, but I’m
more than ready for this. I don’t under estimate Leatitia and I
probably shouldn’t be under estimated either. Everything is
different when you get in the ring. I’ve fought girls twice my size
and the bigger the challenge, the more I get into the fight. It’s a
huge opportunity to fight Leatitia. But I will say this- everybody’s
got to lose some time. Everybody IS beatable. And maybe this is her
time. I’m totally focused and will give her a run for her money."
World Title Wave will be available live on pay per view in Canada
and world wide via broad band distribution.
A Ring of Their Own is the ONLY all women’s boxing series. It is
promoted by Rock & Sock Productions and is distributed on cable TV
and via satellite to over 30 million homes in the US and Canada.
