Team Dunaway Responds to Team Shaffer
By Team Dunaway
March 11, 2006

(MAR 11)  In regards to complaints filed by Melissa Shaffer’s team  concerning the February 16th WIBA Title fight in Kansas City,  about Hollie Dunaway not being drug tested, we would like to clarify some points concerning that night.

We in no way want to criticize Melissa and her management as their complaint was reasonable since Hollie had tested positive (for steroids) in April of last year. Melissa and her management were professional and courteous at all times and have our utmost respect.

Hollie fully expected to be tested and realizes her past mistake would bring questions concerning her future bouts.

After the fight, Tim Leukenoff (ABC Boxing Commission) approached me and stated that allegations had been made that Hollie was currently using steroids. I told him that Hollie was willing to take a drug test and would be happy to comply if they wanted to test her. He stated that he would keep that in mind and that was the end of the conversation.

For the record Hollie Dunaway does not use steroids. I have provided the Missouri Athletic Commission and the WIBA with a copy of this test.  Hollie tested negative for 22 types of steroids and for diuretics and fat-burning substances for her fight in Missouri with Melissa (test took place on February 22).

Hollie made a mistake a year ago and she was punished. When she was informed of this, she didn’t come up with lame excuses and claim she took it by accident. She took responsibility for her action,  apologized and took her punishment.

It did not become public knowledge until Hollie fired her manager, who then released this information to many websites, promoters, managers, former opponents and athletic commissions with the sole intention of doing harm to her career and character.  She then released a statement and explained what she had done and apologized again.

Recently, on other websites and in conversations, Hollie has been falsely accused of using steroids prior to the February 16, 2006 title fight with Shaffer. We would like to set the record straight once and for all.   Hollie does not use illegal substances.

Hollie admitted the drug use when she tested positive for her fight with Regina Halmich and this was the first and only time Hollie had used anything illegal. It is a mistake that she has regretted and will never make again. Any further accusations from any parties without proof will be dealt with and treated for what they are, slanderous and libelous attacks and an attempt to harm her career and character.

Some have commented that Hollie looked super ripped and super muscular on the scale in Kansas City and it was impossible for a female to look like this without the help of drugs. Hollie looked like she did on February 15th,  because she had trained the hardest that she had ever trained for a fight and she was in the best condition of her career.

This fight was very important to her and a fight that she has wanted for a long time now and a defense of her world title. She prepared well for this fight as did Melissa. Both women were in great shape and it showed on the scales and in the ring. We hope that this statement will answer the questions raised and put an end to false rumors and speculation concerning Hollie’s alleged steroid use and allow her to go forward in her career.

(WBAN will be following up with a question/Answer interview with Hollie Dunaway, so be on the lookout!)
