Laila Ali to Retrace Father's Footsteps on Current World Tour

(MAY 19) LOS ANGELES, CA --- WBC, IBA, WIBA and IWBF Light Heavyweight and Super Middleweight Champion Laila Ali announced on May 18th,  that she will fight August 5 in Cape Town, South Africa. This will be the undefeated champion’s first fight in Africa and part of her current world tour which mirrors the same countries her legendary father, Muhammad Ali, fought in years ago.

“It’s an honor to fight in the same countries my father did decades ago,’” said Ali. “I plan to create some memorable moments of my own for boxing fans on this world tour and look forward to visiting the countries and people my father has great admiration and fond memories of.”

About Laila Ali
If bloodlines mean anything, Laila Ali is not only going to the top of her sport, she is going to put on quite a show getting there. Like her legendary father, Ali has quick feet, a stiff jab and an innate self-confidence. In her pro debut in October 1999, Laila knocked out April Fowler in 31 seconds. Following the knockout, Ali struck a pose reminiscent of her father as she stood over the stunned opponent with her fist cocked and a scowl on her face. As a boxer, Laila has gone on to amass an impressive undefeated 22-0 (19 KOs) record en route to becoming a World Champion boxer with Light Heavyweight and Super Middleweight titles for the WBC, IBA, WIBA, and IWBF. What makes Laila special is the fact that her talents and appeal are not just limited to the boxing ring, but instead seem to transcend the ring. As a result of her personality and charisma, the versatile Ali is not only a force to be reckoned with in the ring, but a great force out of the ring as well.
