Ward and Ramsey step up to offer fight with Ali
September 29, 2006

(SEPT 29) WBAN received two open challenges from boxers Laura “Lady Ram” Ramsey and Vonda Ward. At the time WBAN knew that an impending opponent was going to fight Ali, but it needed to be firmed up. Since we have had no word about her opponent, we have posted those "open" challenges of both of these fighters.

Ramsey said, “Why not have Laura Ramsey as your opponent November 11? I am coming off a good win over Erin Toughill, am already back in training, and ready to go again. So change that "TBD" to read: Laura "Lady Ram" Ramsey."

Ward said, “After reading Bernie Mccoy's recent article on the upcoming Ali fight in New York, I could not agree more with his observations. My manager Ed King and I have been trying to solidify a fight with Ali for the last 3 years. The fight in November at Madison Square Garden marks the 35th anniversary of her father’s fight with Joe Frazier.

How fitting it would be if Laila agreed to fight me for the Heavyweight title. I'm currently ranked #1 with the WBC in the heavyweight division, and I currently hold the IBA Heavyweight title belt.

My current weight is 174 lbs. The WBC heavyweight division starts at 175 lbs. So there is no problem with making weight for either of us. Why are we not being contacted? When is Ali going to step up to the plate? How can she seriously look in the mirror and say she's the best?”
