Irish National Female Boxing Championships

(NOV 5) The Irish National Female Boxing Championships concluded last night after some top class competitive action at the National Stadium in Dublin.
 
Fourteen bouts took place at the South Circular  Road venue at novice, underage, and intermediate level.
 
Middleweight Aoibhin Bartley was in top form in her contest with Ballinasloes Amy Duffy, while Christina McMahon, Carla Wright, Kelly Harrington and Dervla Duffy also recorded victories at Intermediate level.
 
The schoolgirl bouts went the way of Sarah Close, Janice Morrissey, Kelly Geraghty and Joanne Boland while the two special contests between Rennee McCabe and Amy Gray, and Clara Fraher and Ciara Noonan, went all the way down to the wire.
 
Meanwhile the Irish mixed team of female, junior and senior boxers went down 5-1 to Holland in Rotherdam last weekend.
 
Ciaran Bates of St Mary's was the only Irish boxer to record a victory convincingly beating Aisen Podjan 21-14.
 
The Irish team were under manager Aisling Brennan, coaches Maurice Walsh and Edward Byrne and Larry Durand (R&J) in the Netherlands.
 
Meantime back to back European lightweight champ Katie Taylor, had to pull out of her recent Venus Multi Nations final in Denmark because of a facial injury.
 
Taylor, 20, from Bray in County Wicklow, Ireland will represent her country at the upcoming  Women's World Championships in New Delhi, India which begins on November 17th.
