Unlike a cheetah,
which is incapable of retracting its claws, a tigress, at times, is
little more than a giant pussycat. Such, evidently, was the case
last night, when, with no titles at stake, the normally implacable
Marcela 'la Tigresa' Acuña of Argentina allowed her fellow
countrywoman María del Carmen Potenza to survive the full ten rounds
in Punta del Este, Uruguay. According to TYC Sports, the fight was
little more than an exhibition.
But with a purpose:
last night's event, on the undercard of which the undefeated
Uruguayan super flyweight Caril "Ratón" Herrera, the current WBC
Latin American champion, fought Mario Narváez of Argentina, was
organized to raise money for the campaign "KO a las drogas"
("KO drugs"), which, since its inception in late 2005, has financed
the creation of over 30 boxing academies in Montivideo and the
surrounding area.
[Result: Acuña
