Mrdjenovich to
fight Raika

February 23, 2007

(FEB 23) On April 13, 2007, in Edmonton, Canada, Jelena Mrdjenovich will be facing Japan's Emiko Raika. This should be a very competitive and interesting fight. Originally negotiations were going on for Mrdjenovich to fight Chevelle Hallback--but that fight is not going to happen.  Hallback turned down the fight.

The WBC wrote the following, "Chevelle Hallback (USA), refused what was considered a reasonable offer to fight WBC Super Featherweight World Champion, Jelena Mrdjenovich (Canada). No purse bid was made on behalf of Hallback. The WBC Female Championship Committee voted to mandate the #2 Emiko Raika (Japan) as contender, and the Mrjenovich Team complied. Emiko Raika (Japan), has gladly accepted the fight. The bout will take place as scheduled on April 13th in Edmonton, Canada. We wish Chevelle the best and regret not having seen this long awaited match come to fruition."
