Taylor Wins in Hungary
By Bernard O'Neill
August 10, 2007

Reigning World and back-to-back European lightweight champion Katie Taylor advanced to the semi finals of the Witch Cup following a clinical quarter final win over Cindy Orain in Pecs Hungary on August 9th.

Taylor, from the St Fergal's club in Bray, stopped the French woman-ranked 11th in the world-on the 15 point rule in round one (15-0).

Taylor, ranked number one in the world at lightweight, will now meet Turkeys Tatar Gulson in tomorrow evenings 60Kg semi final.

Commentating on Taylor's win, Peter Taylor, who was in his daughters corner in Pecs, said Taylor junior was in excellent form.

He said: "Katie forced Orain into a standing count in the first and I think the margin of victory speaks for itself and she was in top form and she has got off to a great start."

Taylor is using the Witch Cup to prepare for the European Championships in Denmark in October where she will be targeting her third gold medal on the trot.
