Suárez makes it four in five
By Ewan Whyte

(DEC 2) Ogleydis Suárez of Venezuela improved to 4-0-1 (4 TKOs) last night when she stopped Lorena Carrillo of Colombia on the La Saga Continua bill in the Roberto Duran Gymnasium, Panama City.

Jorge Olmos reports that "the end came 1 min 28 seconds into the third round, when the referee was forced to bring the proceedings to a close in view of the fearsome thrashing being handed out by the beautiful Venezuelan." Commented Suárez. "I'm happy... it was a great fight to end the year with."

This is only the second setback in Lorena Carrillo's career. After a baptism of fire against the far more experienced Carolina Alvarez, Carrillo had taken less than two minutes in her second fight to reduce Doris Ramírez, the daughter the trainer Ernesto "Campeón" Ramírez, to a state of defencelessness. Indeed it was Ramírez's father, from the corner, who brought the unequal combat to an end. A draw with former Colombian Golden Gloves winner Olga Julia was followed in Barranquilla a few weeks ago by another win by stoppage, the victim this time being Lisset (aka Lissette) Salazar, whom she knocked out in the first round.
