“Sparks should fly”, according to José Rodolfo Castro of Notifight, as ‘The Little Warrior’, Irma ‘La Gúerita’ Sánchez [11(5)-2], seeks tomorrow evening to avenge the reverse inflicted upon her in the Arena Jalisco almost a year ago by Magali Avalos [2-2(2)] of Tepic (Nayarit). Only by decision, admittedly, that loss still rankles, not only because it occurred in her home town, but also because it deprived her of her unbeaten record, and although she suffered a far more painful setback four months later when she was stopped by María Elena Villalobos, the first cut – whilst perhaps not in this case the deepest – inevitably leaves a scar.

Tomorrow, in the more opulent surroundings of the Twin Lyons casino, the theatre of war will once again be Guadalajara, and with the Hispanic bantamweight title at stake, La Guérita will feel upon her the full weight of public expectation. “The crowd”, we are told, “will demand victory.”
