(MAY 16) It's been nearly 18 months
since former WBO Featherweight Champion Ivan Choko Hernandez has
fought, and after his tough loss to Isreal Vasquez he had some
doubts about his future. But Hernandez looked anything by rusty last
night on Roy Englebrecht Promotions sold out private show at the
Hyatt Regency Irvine.
Before 1,000 tuxedo clad fans, Hernandez won an eight round
unanimous decision over a game Anyetei Laryea from Ghana. Using his
ring experience to cut down a quick Laryea, Hernandez won flurries
in almost every round, and in the process won the Golden State
Championship Belt. Hernandez moves to 24-3 while Laryea stands at
16-3.
In the Golden State Championship Belt for females, San Diego's Carly
Batey took home the belt with a unanimous decision over a very game
Sharon Gaines, in a bout that was closer than the final decision
tells. Batey and Gaines throw punches for eight rounds, with Batey
scoring more close in. She goes to 4-3 while Gaines from Las Vegas
goes to 11-11.
The opening bout of the three bout card saw a majority draw between
Joel Mills 4-3-1 and Angel Osuna 2-1-1.
