(MAY 4) On Saturday night at the
Halle 7, in Bremen, Germany, in the main event Ina Menzer, 125¾ of
Germany, won a 10-round unanimous decision over Franchesca Alcanter,
123¼. There were no knockdowns in the fight. Menzer was defending
her WBC and WIBF featherweight titles.
Alcanter came to Germany in top
physical condition, but being strong and in good condition was
not enough to win the world titles up for grabs. The reigning
world champion had everything under control during all 10
rounds, and used her superior technique to make the fight that
suited her. Menzer was obviously not interested in a toe-to-toe
battle and used her foot work to get out of harms way, as soon
as she had thrown her jabs and combinations. Final judges scores
were 100-90 on all cards.
In a post fight interview,
Alcanter told the press, "After almost a year's lay off, I am
satisfied with my fight over 10 rounds. I made a good job of it,
but Ina is a world class boxer, and I respect her good
performance"
