Lamare vs. Saccurato is On:  WBF Light Welterweight Clash
September 16, 2009

(SEPT 16) On October 9th, 2009 in Marseille, France former world champions Myriam Lamare (34) and Ann Saccurato (30) will clash. Both women will be fighting over a distance of 10 rounds for the vacant title of the World Boxing Foundation (WBF). The agreed weight for this championship is 140 lbs (light welterweight).

There couldn't be a more balanced championship. New York based Saccurato (14-3-2) and the French local hero Lamare (16-3-0) are about the same size (5′ 6½″ , 5′ 6″), both turned professional beginning of 2000 (2002,2003) and both lost unanimously vs. world champion Holly Holm in 2007 and 2009. When it comes to the weight Saccurato can benefit from scaling up to the next light welterweight as she is currently 135 lbs. Lamare, however, needs to drop some pounds.

It is hard to say who will win this fight. Coming off her win over Fujin Raika during the world championship in Japan, Saccurato did not fight for the past 12 months. Although her contestant, Frenchwoman Lamare, recently lost against Holly Holm, Lamare has declared herself ready for Friday's fight in Marseille.

The first winner is already found: the World Boxing Foundation with its ambition to further develop and support womens boxing, recently confirmed by Chairman Daniel Hiller (Germany). "The WBF is proud to have succeeded in finding such professional and confident fighters for this duel. We will get a worthy world champion by any means.", says Hiller.
