(JULY 27) Melissa Hernandez returns to New Mexico to face Victoria Cisneros August 14th,  for the WIBA Interim lightweight title. Their battle is the main event at the Santa Ana Star Casino in Bernalillo on a card promoted by Stephanie Jaramillo and her Golden Girl Promotions. Given the events that occurred December 4 when Hernandez left the Isleta Casino before a showdown with Holly Holm and Cisneros stepped in to replace her, it might be natural for first time promoter Jaramillo to have a few worries. “I'm not worried in the least,” she said. “This is a fight between Melissa and Victoria, and it was a fight that came to me, so we're looking forward to it. It will be a really good fight.”

Since December Hernandez has won a decision over Ela Nunez, and lost a bout to Canada's Lindsay Garbatt, and is frank in assessing these performances. “I won one fight and lost the other,  'cause I lost my passion for the game,” she said. “But the loss was good for me,” she continued. “I like that loss because it woke me up. I'm hungry again, I love what I do again. And- it made me remember I am womyn's boxing.”

Her confidence restored and training already underway for Cisneros, Hernandez responded with her trademark swagger about the August 14 bout. “I'm coming back to New Mexico not to fight the rabbit, but rather the bird the rabbit pulled out of the hat at the last minute,” she said. “Cisneros is a “B” level fighter but she comes to fight, so you need to come in shape. As far as predicting how the fight could go with Cisneros, Hernandez offered this reasoning: “Holly Holm went ten rounds with Victoria after like 30 minutes of knowing she was going to fight her. I'm giving her FOUR WEEKS to train, and I'm going to stop. Just to show I'm womyn's boxing."
