I have
been happily married to my husband, Bryan, for 9 years
and we have two children: Caleb 7 and Aubrey 6. Caleb is
active in judo and soccer; and Aubrey is active in
soccer and occasionally in judo. So, needless to say, we
are extremely busy with our kids.
Currently, I am working at an oil & gas company in Fort
Worth, Texas as a GIS/EDM Specialist. I do pipeline
mapping and database design/management. I absolutely
love my job!
In Fall 2008, I decided to return to school to pursue my
4 year degree. Unfortunately, since I received my AAS
from a technical school, none of my credits would
transfer, so I had to start my college career over again
: ( During the Fall and Spring, I attend part-time. I'm
hoping to earn a BS in Computer Science - wish me luck!
As for keeping in shape, I
am on and off. Sometimes my schedule just gets too busy
to add a workout to it, but lately I have been pretty
consistent. No boxing plans for me in the future, but I
do take an occasional judo class for a brief "fighting
itch" relief and am going through the P90X workout at
home. Also, my husband surprised me w/ converting our
garage into a full gym equipped w/ several weights and a
boxing set up.
I love checking your site to see the progress that
female boxers have made in the past several years. I
could only dream of being as good as some of these women
are now. I love the sport and there isn't a day that
goes by that I don't think about the ring again, but my
life cannot go in that direction. I tore my ACL in
November 2006 during a judo tournament and had the
surgery in January 2007. It tore me up inside not being
able to keep up with my kids due to being on crutches
for 6 weeks. My kids need me, they are my number 1
priority, and it's my responsibility to them to stay
healthy. With fighting, you don't know what can happen,
and as a mother, I can't take that risk.
Ladies! Please keep up the awesome work!

| Hello,
Pat Acosta reporting....I am now living in the San
Antonio, TX area. Because of my current job as an AT&T
Regional Project Manager working out and staying active
enough to box is not possible. I still watch a lot of
boxing and have been fortunate enough to meet a lot of
great people in the industry. My goal will
be to become a part of the boxing world again although
not as a boxer. Attached are a few pictures "showing
off" how much fun I am still having with the boxing
entertainment world.

| Hello
Sue, yes it has been a while since I last fought. My
last fight was in China with Yang Ya Nan in November of
2008. I became frustrated with the lack of opportunities
to fight, so I started promoting fights to give myself
and other females the chance to fight. I promoted
two shows in 2009 but I did not get an opportunity to
fight on the cards because it was too much to put the
shows on and I found it hard to train and put the show
together. However, I will be fighting on someone else's
card August 28th, in Galveston Texas, potential opponent
Sandra Almeida. Thanks for following up------Akondaye |

| Dear
Sue; Right now, its summertime and I'm out soaking up
the sun and just out having fun. I hope that this coming
September, I will have a different skill for
myself, as I plan to go back to school. H...., yes! I’m
always training and staying in shape! Although I’m mad
at myself. I realize I’m a little too old to be boxing
now. If I had common sense back then I would have gotten
started in it sooner. And none of those wannabe pimp
managers would’ve been tryin’ to play me. They’d have
been played. And I mean hard! That’s ok now, life goes
on, and I like doing things my way. I’m the boss of me!
Most of all I like to eat right and good. (chuckle)
I'm always in the hot tub and getting massages and those
are a treat! --Michelle |

Hello Sue -I was getting ready to fight a a year and a
half ago but decided to have a baby. I have an
eight-month old son, and am now back in the gym
training. The weight is coming off so by end of the
year, I should be back in the ring. My
sister, Amanda Serrano, has kept me busy running
and sparring with her. It never felt like I
left. Sparring with Amanda at times is harder than some
of the fights I've had (laugh)-----So don't count me out
yet! I'll be back real soon without any brakes. I
always wanted another baby! No more---two is
good, so I'll see you guys in the Ring
soon----Cindy "Checkmate" Serrano |

| Hello
Sue, This year I have boxed two times, the first
one was in Barcelona (Spain) against Elena Miftode, I
won by TKO in the 3rd. The second one in Denmark,
against Vinni Skovgaard----- the judges said that I lost
by majority decision, but I think It was a close fight
but I won. |

Hi
Sue/WBAN,
Thanks for contacting me. I am still training and
looking for a fight. I have a new trainer and I'm
working very hard at enhancing my skill set. My most
recent fight was with Christy Martin in September last
year. I only had 2 weeks notice on that fight, and I
still think I was robbed! I would love that rematch! I
spar with Pia Porter, who has relocated here from
Germany, and looking for fights at 165lbs. I am fighting
at 160lbs and open to any and all opportunities to
fight.
I have been training an amateur boxer as well, Contessia
Cook, who is doing very well in the amateur ranks.
I am still loving my life out here on Whidbey Island in
the Puget Sound. I fish for salmon, I have a boat and a
motorcycle which I love to cruise around on, I have a
great partner and we have two awesome dogs that keep us
busy. My family is here and I have great friends. Boxing
has been a major part of my life for 15 years now. It
has made me the person I am today, and still continues
to shape me. I love boxing, and it has loved me back.
