Pandora Promotions and Global Boxing Promotions Set for debut
December 22, 2010

NEW YORK  - Maureen Shea's Pandora Promotions in association with Global Boxing Promotions is proud to present "Brooklyn Explosion" on Thursday, January 13th at the Masonic Temple in Brooklyn, NY.

In the main event, top-rated female Super Bantamweight Alicia "Slick" Ashley (15-9-1,1 KO) of Brooklyn, NY will take another step towards a world title opportunity in an eight round fight against an opponent to be named later.

While few promoters would place a female in a main event slot, Maureen "The Real Million Dollar Baby" Shea of Pandora Promotions understands the importance of being given a chance.

The Bronx, NY native Shea, who is also the current NABF featherweight champion with a 15-2 (9 KO) record, was the first female fighter ever to be showcased on Dibella Entertainment's "Broadway Boxing" series. Since then, Dibella has featured a number of female fighters.

Shea has also boxed for several high profile promoters including Top Rank, Star Boxing and Irish Ropes, appearing three times at Madison Square Garden as a professional.

Now, as a promoter, she hopes to open doors for up-and-coming fighters looking to make it big in their own right.

"I'm very grateful for all of the opportunities that I have been given by other promoters. Now I want to pay it forward and help other fighters reach their goals as well.

"Very few promoters would take a risk and put a female fighter in the main event of their show, but I believe that a fighter's gender is immaterial. There is no masculine or feminine connotation to the word 'boxer.' An athlete is an athlete.

"Alicia is a tough and determined fighter who pours her heart and soul into the sport like the rest of the fighters on this card. There's a reason why Marcela Acuna chose to be stripped of the WBC super bantamweight title rather than face Alicia Ashley again. The WBC has ordered that Ashley fight for the now vacant title. When a fighter of this caliber headlines your first card, it will surely provide fans with a great show that elevates the sport and the fighters as well."

The rest of the card will be announced shortly.
