Latest Update on Rola El-Halabi!
August 18, 2011

(AUG 18) WBAN has received a latest update on Rola El-Halabi, [11-0, with 6 KO’s], who was shot by her stepfather and former manager Roy El-Halabi, on April 1, 2011, in Berlin, Germany just moments before stepping into the ring for a title bout against Bosnian Irma Adler is, recovering nicely but that her right hand needs further rehabilitation.

As reported by WBAN on April 2, 2011, Rola’s stepfather and former manager Roy El-Halabi shot her in her hand, knee and both feet. He also shot and injured two security guards before being arrested. Link to story

This tragic event was a tremendous shock to the boxing community as it occurred a little over four months after the incident in which Christy Martin was shot and stabbed by her "now former" husband and manager, Jim Martin.

Rola’s most memorable win up-to-date came on March 20, 2010, when Rola scored a 5th round TKO of former World Champion and veteran of the sport, Mia St. John, in Ulm, Germany; Rola’s hometown.

According to the latest update that WBAN received,  “Rola El-Halabi is far from hanging up her gloves and is looking toward a brighter future in the sport and in her Life.  Rola is very much excited to get back into the gym but doesn’t expect to be competition ready until September 2012---a date she says she endeavors getting back into the Ring in her Hometown of Ulm, Germany, before setting her sights on competing in the States against tougher opponents.” Although, Rola is still in the process of recovery and is yet prepared to discuss any upcoming bouts and such, according to the report, “she is eager to get back into her regimen and is confident she will recover and compete again.” A personal statement by Rola El-Halabi is forthcoming…

“Rola sends her warmest regards to everyone and appreciates everyone’s concern and the many well wishes sent to her during her ordeal. Rola went on to say that she really appreciates Sue Fox for allowing her these few moments to let everyone know that she’s okay and that she looks forward to following up with Sue…”

WBAN looks forward to Rola El-Halabi’s full recovery.
