WBAN Gives Special Honor to Retired World Champion Bonnie Canino
August 30, 2011

(AUG 30) WBAN is happy to announce that our WBAN September 2011 fighter of the month is retired world champion Bonnie Canino, who fought for many years in the ring, and was also a trailblazer for not only women's boxing, but kickboxing as well.

Canino currently continues to help any female boxer who is in need of help---whether they are from New York, Trinidad, or any other place.

Canino has been a driving force in the sport not only inside the ring, but outside the ring.  She has also contributed stories, photos, and news about the women throughout the years, and is always striving to promote the sport.

In December of 2008, Canino was inducted into the Broward County (FL) Sports Hall of Fame along with six other area sports persons. The Hall of Fame was established to honor and recognize coaches, athletes and sports pioneers who are current or former residents of Broward County.

Canino, a USA national coach, has also been instrumental in the amateurs scene for women, holding tournaments in Florida.

It is with great respect that WBAN would like to give credit to one of the top women boxers in the sport from yesterday and continues to help the sport today.
