12th Annual Women's Health Forum This Saturday in Los Angeles

(APR 26)  LOS ANGELES – KJLH-FM will host their 12th annual Women’s Health Forum (WHF) Saturday, April 28, from 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 S. Figueroa St., Downtown Los Angeles).

A free women’s health conference, the KJLH WHF will focus on the health of minority women, specifically nutrition, fitness, diabetes, cancer prevention, supplements, and skincare with free workshops, exercise classes, boxing and Zumba demonstrations, and health screenings. The WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks will sign autographs and comedian and activist Dick Gregory will be the keynote speaker at the Wellness Village (502AB). Special surprise guests will join KJLH on-air personalities Dominique DiPrima, Nautica De La Cruz, Tammy Mack, and Kevin Nash throughout the day. The WHF will conclude with a fashion show and show giveaway featuring KJLH’s Adai Lamar from the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Live Broadcast and Giveaway

The 2012 KJLH WHF will feature a number of prominent local health and fitness professionals. From 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. KJLH will have a live broadcast from the Women’s Health Forum (Concourse Hall) featuring a number of panelists including Tumani Leatherwood, MD, a family-medicine physician who has been with Kaiser for 27 years and is the physician in charge at their new South Los Angeles facility, who will discuss the number one killer of women, heart disease. Other panelists include: local nephrologist Dr. Vincent Anthony, breast surgeon Dr. Dennis Holmes, obstetrician, gynecologist, and reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Donna Shoupe, V.A. Hospital diabetes program educator Rashaye Freeman, MSN, PHD, dermatologist Dr. Susan Evans, dentist Dr. Misty Black, Angel Kidney Care Dialysis Center obesity specialist Dr. Zahra Tabassian, Cleon Joseph, fitness and exercise expert, HIV and AIDS expert Dr. Cynthia Davis, and Resurrecting Your Financial Health CEO Craig Woods.

Participants and listeners to this year’s live broadcast will have the opportunity to win a 42” flat screen television and round trip airfare anywhere in the contiguous United States, or internationally to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, or Bermuda courtesy of American Airlines and BlackAtlas.com.

Wellness Village

KJLH Front Page show host Dominque DiPrima and the Lifewell Institute will present comedian and activist Dick Gregory at the 2012 Wellness Village taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Room 502AB). An Oasis of Alternative Healing, the Wellness Village will focus on alternative and holistic health options for women. Panel discussions include Alternative vs. Western Medicine (11:00 a.m.), Alternative Means to Losing Weight and Eating Healthier (12 noon), and Basic Body Maintenance (1:00 p.m.). Other activities include free yoga classes, massages, dynamic stretching tutorials, belly dancing classes, reflexology, acupuncture, detox demonstrations, and an introduction to herbology.
