Congrats to Ava Knight - WBAN's July 2012 Fighter
of the Month!
by Sue TL Fox
July 4, 2012

(JULY 4)  Ava Knight, just 23 years old, of Chico, California, has accomplished more in her young years than most female boxers ever dream of doing. Knight just successfully defended her IBF Flyweight World title on June 30th, when she defeated Susana Vazquez of Mexico.

Even though Knight is a flyweight, she has plenty of punching power, that has put the last two out of three opponents out of the fight by TKO and KO!

Short video of Jerry Hoffman interviewing Knight

Former boxing promoter Jerry Hoffman, who has been a strong advocate for female boxing throughout many, many years could not have said it any better when he wrote the following:

"Ava Knight is fairly anonymous here at home [California), but she's becoming a star in Mexico. Since zero opportunities exist for a female World Champion to be promoted in California, Knight is making a habit of traveling into hostile territory against Latina favorites and leaving no doubt about the outcome. Her biggest triumph in Mexico was knocking out the previously undefeated Arely Mucino in the second round to capture her IBF World Flyweight Title."

"On Saturday night [June 30] Ava defended her championship, going the distance and nearly pitching a shutout on the Mexican judges scorecards. The unanimous dominance over Susana Vasquez improves Ava's record to 9-1-3", added Hoffman.
