Rivas won by a split and
successfully defended her title.
At the fights, Juarez was
interviewed afterwards and she talked about women commentating
at boxing events.
Mariana: "Mexico needs women who narrate boxing. So when I
retire, I would like to practice this exciting profession. I
want to be around boxing forever---- but now I'm like fine wine:
a more aging better taste. "
We asked Mariana what made her
decide that she would like to be a boxing commentator after she
retires from boxing?
Mariana said, "Since I was a child I always liked boxing,
whether practicing it, or watching it. But when I watched, I
listened carefully to the commentators and I think that would be
good for the fans to hear the women's perspective. One of my
favorite commentators was Sony Alarcón, who was undoubtedly one
of the best that Mexico has."
When asked if this was her first
time at commentating...she said, "No, I've done it before. The
first time, I was invited to fight where the WBC international
super bantamweight title on the line, between Mexican Giovanni
Caro and South African Simpiwe Vetyeka. It was a very bloody
battle where the winner was the Mexican by unanimous decision.
On the same card, I also narrated the fight between Esmeralda
Moreno vs. Mary Salinas, where Moreno successfully defended her
WBC Silver light flyweight belt for the first time."
"After that, I think the audience liked my style, because Grupo
Televisa continued to invite me on several occasions, such as
Irma Garcia vs. Janeth Perez for the WBA bantamweight title and
now the Yasmin Rivas against Maria Elena Villalobos for the IBF
Mariana said that after she retires, that in "all areas" of the
sport she would like to be involved in. "It would be
impossible for me to get away from this beautiful sport!,"
