Women’s Boxing Action this Weekend
By Sue TL Fox
July 31, 2014

(JULY 31)  WBAN’s wrap up for this coming weekend’s boxing action in women’s boxing worldwide. On Friday, August 1st, the action begins on boxing cards on the following:

ARGENTINA: At the Club Unión Eléctrica, in Cordoba, Argentina, in an eight round bout, Carolina Marcela Gutierrez Gaite, 21-4-1 (13KO), of Cordoba will be fighting in a non-title bout against Anahi Yolanda Salles, 4-12-2 (1KO), of Buenos Aires. Gaite has fought two Interim WBO Bantamweight world title fights in 2014, losing both of those bouts by split decision. For Salles, this will be the third bout with Gaite, with the last fight with Gaite being a no contest, and in 2012 having a six-round split draw.

MEXICO: Palenque del Parque Morelos, Tijuana, Mexico, in a four-rounder, light flyweight Tania Enriquez, 3-0-0 (1KO), of Tijuana, will be fighting Karen “La Gansito” Compean, of Rosarito, Mexico, making her pro debut.

UPDATE:  THIS CARD HAS BEEN CANCELED IN NEW YORK

NEW YORK, USA: Amazura Concert Hall, Jamaica, Queens, New York, super bantamweight Elisa Collaro, of New York, will be making her pro debut against Rachel Vidal, 1-2-1, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

FLORIDA, USA: A La Carte Event Pavilion, Tampa, Florida, in an eight rounder, flyweight
Noemi "La Rebelde" Bosques , 5-1-2 (1KO), of Saint Petersburg, Florida, will be facing Yolaine Lin De Lauf, 6-1-0 (2KO), of Binche, Belgium for a local title.

On Saturday night, August 2nd, the following bouts will take place.

JAPAN: At the Adachi Ward Sogo Sports Center, Tokyo, Japan, light flyweight Ana “La Bronca” Arrazola, 20-9-2 (13KO), of Tlalnepantla, México, will be venturing in her opponent’s backyard when she takes on Naoko Shibata, 12-3-0 (3KO), of Tokyo, who is depending her IBF Light flyweight world title bout in 10 rounder. In a second bout, Momo Koseki, 18-2-1 (5KO), of Tokyo, will be defending her Atomweight WBC belt against Denise Castle, 2-0-0 (2KO). Does not look like much of a matchup in this fight, as Castle has only had two fights in 2014 with the same opponent that lost twice, no wins with any boxer. Definitely a questionable fight to take place between Koseki vs. Castle.

PANAMA: Gimnasio Municipal, Puerto Armuelles, Panama, in a four-round bout in the flyweight division, Zuliana Mendoza, 1-2-1, of Puerto Armuelles, Panama, vs. Veronica Taylor, 0-2-0, also of Panama.

UPDATE: Lamonakis vs. Ewell - Fight postponed due to Tropical Storm - POSTPONED

SINT MAARTEN: On the "War in Paradise" boxing card, at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium, in Philipsburg, St. Maarten, in a long awaited rematch between
Carlette The Truth" Ewell, 15-7-1 (9KO), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Sonya "The Scholar"  Lamonakis, 9-1-2 (1KO), of New York, NY, will settle the score in this neutral territory for the two, after their first fight that took place in January 2012 where the two fought to a split six-round draw in New York. Lamonakis, the reigning New York State women's heavyweight champion, and Ewell the reigning UBC and UNBC Women's World Heavyweight champion, as well as a three-division world champion, and a five-time world champion will be fighting in 10-rounds of boxing action for the vacant IBO heavyweight title.

On Sunday, August 3rd, the following bouts will take place:

GERMANY: Admiralspalast Kleine Buehne, Mitte, Berlin, Germany, Jennifer Retzke, 14-1-1 (9KO), of Berlin, will fight Florence Muthoni, 11-3-1 (5KO), of Nairobi, Kenya will fight a 10-round title bout for the vacant IBO welterweight belt. This will be a rematch for the two, when in their first fight in August of 2013, they fought to a 10-round majority draw.
