(APR 29) After nine months of
inactivity inside a boxing ring, 18-year-old Tania Enriquez
(4-0, 2KO) of Tijuana comes back in a big way when on Friday,
May 8th, in Mexicali, Mexico, she faces Selene Lopez (3-2-3,
1KO) for the vacant female flyweight FECOMBOX title.
The FECOMBOX is the Mexican
version of the Association of Boxing Commissions found in the
Unites States. The fight card is presented by Paves Promotions
and will be held at the Municipal Gymnasium of Mexicali.
Originally, Tijuana’s Brenda Flores was slated to face Lopez for
the title but for reasons not disclosed she was not able to
participate. Tania, the younger sister of former WBO flyweight
champion Kenia Enriquez, was programmed to fight on the card
against an opponent to be determined but when the opportunity
arose, she did not hesitate to take it. The bout will be her
first at ten rounds.
“I am very excited, this is a big opportunity and I am not going
to let it go to waste,” she said. “I haven’t stopped training
even though I haven’t had the opportunity to fight. I have only
fought for four rounds before but I trust my conditioning and I
am more than ready.”
In the main event, Selene’s sister, Karely Lopez (6-5-3, 1KO) of
Mexicali, Mexico, by way of Los Mochis, will face Carol Castro
(6-5, 2KO) for the junior flyweight title sanctioned by the same
organization.
