The Importance of Warming up before Boxing
Date: July 13, 2020

Boxing has been a popular sport since the time immemorial. It has many health and cognitive benefits for you. Many people who are involved in other sports do boxing because it enhances their performance in their actual sport. However, boxing is an intense sport and you need to do some warm-up before practicing it. Your body needs to get ready for the actual boxing session otherwise you will face serious consequences. A good warm-up, done correctly, is a sure way to wake up your body and muscles for boxing. Warm-up prepares the heart muscle and circulatory system. Most people skip warming up because they consider it less important and want to put away the less important things. However, in reality, pre boxing workout is equally important to all intents and purposes.

Here are all the reasons why warming up your body before boxing is recommendable,

body, for each degree of temperature elevation, the metabolic rate of the cells increases by about 13 percent.

Increasing blood circulation to working muscles:

If you go directly to your intense boxing workout without doing a warm-up, you will probably start to struggle immediately after starting the exercise. Elevating your blood flow is the main reason for doing a warm-up before boxing. Increased blood flow brings oxygenated blood to areas of your body that don’t usually receive as much of it on a regular basis. Your hands and feet usually get less blood than the rest of your body which makes them stiff, colder, and less agile. Cold body in any workout may cause injury to your body.

Raising core body temperature:

As you do a warm-up to increase the blood circulation in your whole body, you raise your core temperature and start to sweat. Increased muscle temperature helps ensure that your muscles and connective tissue are oxygenated enough to perform more forceful actions. In warming up your body, for each degree of temperature elevation, the metabolic rate of the cells increases by about 13 percent.

Enhancing flexibility:

Flexibility and agility are very important for performing up to scratch in boxing. Pre boxing warm-up besides increasing body temperature and blood flow makes your body more flexible. Every part of your body heats up after a good warm-up exercise which lubricates your joints and makes you more flexible, agile, and stronger. A proper workout done correctly improves the muscle elasticity and the flexibility of the tendons and ligaments are increased.

Conclusively, in the beginning, when you start your warm-up routine before boxing, it may give you a tough time. But over time, your body will get used to it and you will start performing better in your war-up as well as in your boxing class. Reduces the risk of injury:

One of the most important reasons for warming up before a vigorous workout like boxing is to avoid any kind of injury and getting the most out of your boxing class. After warming up exercise, the body becomes loose and the techniques of boxing can be performed more easily and correctly. A warm-up reduces muscle tension and eases all the muscles involved in movements of the workout. However, if the warm-up isn’t done correctly the body often becomes restricted through its movement and results in injury.

Mental preparation:

You also need to make up your mind for intense physical activity like boxing and warm-up is the best way in this situation. You always have a lot of things on your mind and for best results in boxing, your mind should also involve in your workout. A warm-up will not only make you physically but mentally ready too for your physical activity.

Difference between warming-up and stretching:

To get into the warm-up activity, you need to understand the difference between warm-up and stretching. You need a warm-up before stretching, if you do stretching without a prior warm-up, the muscles are cold and stiff and are more prone to injuries, such as muscle tear or strain. Many people think that stretching is actually a type of warm-up, but it is in fact, a static activity. Stretching can be considered a part of your cool down but not war-up.
