(JULY 23) Eden Park aka “The Garden of Eden” will play host to a mega local show of boxing, featuring six professional boxing fights, promoted by Bruce Glozier on September 4th.

Bruce Glozier who is well known to be the big local promoter has hosted multiple major events, including two WBO World Light Heavyweight title fights with Geovana Peres at Sky City. He also hosted a major local women’s title fight between Baby Nansen and Karen Te Ruki Pasene. Now for the first time ever, Boxing will be taking place at the home of New Zealand rugby, Eden Park.

The main event of the evening will be the young 20-year-old Viliami Liavaa (2 - 0 - 0) taking on the veteran Joshua Tai (5 - 13 - 0). Viliami Liavaa has a lot of major potential in professional boxing. He made his professional boxing debut back in 2019 August. The problem is everyone else saw his potential and didn’t want to fight him, leaving him inactive for the rest of 2019 and 2020. He made his ring debut in 2021 May against the same person he debuted against, winning both bouts easily. His next fight was supposed to be on August 7th against Lucas Miller (7 - 3 - 2) in Australia, however, with the recent bubble being popped, it’s highly unlikely that fight will still be happening. When will put all of his attention to Joshua Tai.

Joshua Tai you could say is the Gatekeeper of boxing in New Zealand. His record doesn’t show it, but he is talented and extremely tough. He only made his in-ring return this year after being away for 5 years. Josh has already made big explosions already when he took on Francis waitai and Jerome Pampellone, however, both were on losing efforts. Josh Tai will take it to Viliami, and if Viliami wants to get to the next stage of his career, he needs to go through Joshua Tai.

The undercard will feature a lot of talented boxers including former New Zealand Super Lightweight champion Karen Te Ruki Pasene (3 - 2 - 0) taking on former New Zealand Welterweight champion Michaela Jenkins (1 - 2 - 0). The battle of the former champions of different weight divisions is happening.

Karen Tr Ruki Pasene has just come off a loss last October against Baby Nansen but she redeemed herself with a massive win against the former multiple New Zealand amateur champions Ariane Nicholson which some believe to be a controversial decision. Michaela Jenkins just came off two losses against two-division New Zealand Champion Mea Motu. Both females need this win. For Michaela, it would put her back on the right track in her boxing career, however, for Karen it would reestablish herself as a true contender in New Zealand boxing, especially before she goes for a rematch against Ariane Nicholson in October for the New Zealand title.

Another massive fight that was just recently announced is the return of The Smiling Assassin, former World title contender Lani Daniels (4 - 2 - 2) taking on the professional rugby player that shocked New Zealand, Sequita Hemingway (1 - 0 - 0).

Lani Daniels has been away from the ring for while, with her last fight being against Tessa Tualevao in the third instalment of their rivalry back in 2019. Lani took some time away from boxing but is now ready to make her return. Originally she was supposed to fight for a world title on the Joseph Parker vs Junior Fa undercard against Alrie Meleisea. But that fight collapsed in what the best way to describe it was due to poor boxing politics. Lani Daniels is now moving past that to get her career back on track, and she will be taking on the rugby player that surprised us all.

Sequita Hemingway only made her professional boxing debut this month where she made the biggest upset in New Zealand women’s boxing history by winning against a world-ranked boxer on her professional boxing debut. She defeated Alrie Meleisea who was 3rd on Boxrec, 3rd in WBA and 8th in WBC. Now after her win, Sequita is ranked 4th on boxrec, and we await the results of the rankings in the major boxing organisations next month. But now she is focused on Lani Daniels, who despite not fighting since 2019, Lani Daniels is ranked 9th in the WBA. This will be Sequita second professional boxing bout and she is taking on another world ranked boxer. On top of that Lani Daniels is a former Word title Contender. You could possibly say that Sequita is the Paul Gallen of women’s boxing.

The rest of the undercard will feature Titi Motusaga, Joe Ageli and the Super Lightweights of Mark Arquiza (1 - 3 - 0) taking on Nort Beauchamp (18 - 5 - 0).
