(DEC 26) Well, it is a rap for women's boxing for 2021, and we have seen some great fights take place this year----some of (not all) the top picks that took place...Here are some of the top picks this year! Drum roll......

May 1, 2021 - Manchester Arena, Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom -Lightweight Katie Taylor, 134.5, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Natasha Jonas, 134.5.  Taylor was defending her WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO lightweight world titles.  Judges Final scores 96-95, 96-94, and 96-95.

October 30, 2021 - Auditorio Municipal, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico -
Super bantamweight Jackie Nava, 120 1/4, of Tijuana, Mexico, now 39-4-4- (16 KO), won a ten-round unanimous decision over Mariana Juarez, 120 3/4, of Mexico City.  The two were fighting for the vacant WBC Diamond Super Bantamweight title.  Final judges scores were 94-97, 90-100, and 91-99.

June 19, 2021 - Don Haskins Center inEl Paso, Texas
Marlen Esparza defeated a very tough opponent Ibeth Zamora Silva in a 10 round title bout fighting for the WBC Flyweight World title. The two fought at the . Final Judges scores were:  96-92, 95-94, 96-94.  Esparza is now 10-1-0 (1KO). Silva fell to 32-7-0 (12 KO).

March 13, 2021 - American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas
Welterweight Jessica McCaskill, 144.5, of Chicago, Illinois, successfully defended her WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO Welterweight titles over Cecilia Braekhus, 145, of Norway.  Final judges scores were 98-91, 99-90, and 100-89.

March 25, 2021- Plaza del Quinto Centenario, San Juan, Puerto Rico  - Amanda "The Real Deal" Serrano, 124¾,  won by a ninth round KO over Daniela "La Bonita" Bermudez, 125. The bout was scheduled for ten rounds. The two fought for the WBC, WBO, and the vacant IBO Featherweight title.

April 10, 2021 - Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney Wick, London, United Kingdom-Shannon Courtenay, 117.5, of Hertfordshire, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Ebanie Bridges, 117, of New South Wales.  The final scoring was 92-98, 94-97, and 92-98.  Courtenay won the vacant WBA Bantamweight world title.  Courtenay is now 7-1-0 (3KO), and Bridges had her first loss as a pro and is now 5-1-0 (2KO).

ay 29, 2021 - Michelob Ultra Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada
Chantelle Cameron, 139 1/4, won by a fifth round TKO over Melissa Hernandez, 136 21/4. Cameron was defending her WBC Super Lightweight title.  

May 14, 2021 - Embassy Suites Nashville SE, Murfreesboro, Tennessee -The card featured three female bouts on the card and one male boxing bout. In the mainliner, Heather Hardy, 135¾, of Brooklyn, New York, fighting Jessica Camara, 135½, of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The bout was scheduled as a eight-rounder, in the Lightweight division; In the first round, Camara experienced a knockdown (20 seconds in first round) by Hardy, but the end result was winning by a unanimous decision with a final score by judges of 79-73, 78-73, and 77-74.  In a post-fight interview, Camara was overwhelmed with the win, and said that she could not even try to describe how she was feeling and that Hardy is one of her role models, growing up in the sport.

June 19, 2021 - Virgin Hotels, in Las Vegas, Nevada  
Mikaela Mayer took on a tough fight with Erica Farias, and winning by a 10-round unanimous decision. The two were fighting for the WBO Junior Lightweight World title.  It was reported that Mayer adjusted, turned up the heat and defeated Erica Farias.  This was a first successful defense of her belt.

November 13, 2021 - Kolding Hallen, Kolding, Denmark-Bantamweight Dina Thorslund, 117 3/4, Won by a KO over Zulina Munoz, 117.5. The bout was scheduled for ten rounds. They were fighting for the WBO Bantamweight world title.

July 16, 2021 - Gimnasio Municipal "Jose Neri Santos", Ciudad Juarez, Mexico -Lourdes “La Pequeña Lulú” Juarez, now 32-2-0 (4KO), of Mexico city, Mexico, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Diana "la Bonita" Fernandez, now 23-4-0 (4KO), of Ciudad Juarez.  Lourdes was defending her WBC Super Flyweight title.  Final judges scores were 95-95, 96-95, and 96-94. 

August 27, 2021 -  Sycuan Casino Resort in El Cajon, CA- Split-T Management's Kali "KO" Reis made a successful first defense of her WBA Super Lightweight world title facing Diana Prazak in the mainliner where she won by a majority Decision.  The bout was the headline bout of a UFC Fight Pass streamed card.   Full Story

July 9, 2021 Two Top female bouts on this card: [Banc of California Stadium, Los Angeles, Calif.-Flyweight Noako Fujioka, 111 3/4, of Japan, won by a 10-round majority decision over Sulem Urbina, 112.  Fujioka successfully defended her WBA Flyweight world title; in a second female bout, Seniesa Estrada, 108, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Tenkai Tsunami, 107 1/4.  The two were fighting for the WBO Light Flyweight title.  Full Story

August 7, 2021 -  Matchroom HQ Garden, Brentwood, England
Ebanie Bridges, 118¾,  fought Bec Connolly, 119, scueduled for eight rounds, but the fight ended in the third round (1:22) when Bridges TKO'd Connolly. Courtesy photos by Matchbox at the weigh-in.  Full Story

November 19, 2021 - SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire - The female world title fight did not disappoint! The two battled it out until the very end, with Reis having a successful final tenth round going after Camara, even through some noted exhaustion, nothing stopped these warriors making every second count in this bout.  Coming into the fight, 35-year old Kali “KO” Reis, weighed in at 138 lbs.,  vs. Jessica “Cobra” Camara, 33, 136 lbs. Full Story

March 5, 2021 - Flint, Michigan-In one of four female bouts on the card,  Claressa Shields, 153½, won a 10-round unanimous decision over Marie Eve Dicaire, 152½. Final judges scores were 100-90 on all card. The two were fighting for the WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF Super welterweight world titles. 

October 9, 2021 Echo Arena, in Liverpool, England-Jamie "The Miracle" Mitchell,  117½, who fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada, and from Los Angeles, California, won a 10-round majority decision over Shannon Courtenay, 120½, of Watford, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.  The two were fighting for the vacant WBA Bantamweight world title.  Final judges scores were 94-96, 93-97, and 95-95. Full Story

October 22, 2021-Coliseo Sugar Baby Rojas, Barranquilla, Colombia -Light flyweight Yesica Bopp, 107¾, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, now 37-2-0 (17KO), won by a fourth round TKO over Johana Zuniga, 106¼, 16-01-0 (9KO), of La Victoria, Venezuela,  in a 10-round title fight for the WBA Super World Light Flyweight title.  

November 5, 2021 - Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada
Boxing fans were delighted with a superb display of a couple of the best female boxers in the professional ranks.  Mikaela Mayer, 129½, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, took on one of the toughest battles so far as a pro after having a successful career in the amateurs, when she fought Maiva Hamadouche, 128½, of Fontenay le Fleury, Paris, France went toe-to-toe with Mayer, in what was described as one of the best female fights this year.  Full Story
