Winless Boxer Gets TKO'd a second time by Achieng

(AUG 31) On Saturday night at the Chui Restaurant, in Nairobi, Kenya, Patroba Lihavi, winless now at 0-5-1, failed to make it six rounds with Conjestina Achieng, now 16-6-4 (8KO). Lihavi was stopped by TKO in the fourth round. The fight was scheduled for six rounds.   Full Story

Holm Wins by Decision for WIBA Belt; Dennisson Wins Debut
August 29, 2009

(AUG 29) Last night at the New Mexico Highlands University, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Holly Holm, 145, defeated Terri Blair, 143.5,  in a rematch. Holm won by a 10-round unanimous decision for the WIBA welterweight title. On the undercard of the Holm-Blair mainliner, Nohime Dennisson, 128½. in Las Vegas, New Mexico, won her pro debut by a four-round majority decision, over Amanda Crespin, 126½, who was also making her pro debut.

Promotion of the sport of women boxing is the key factor in insuring the surviving of the sport. Now, let's take it a little bit further than that. !(AUG 25) This last week WBAN received a photo shoot of a new boxer [Photo Gallery #507] on the scene, featherweight Christina Ruiz. Ruiz fights out of San Antonio, Texas. Photographer Erik Esteban Stipnieks went behind the scenes with Ruiz and took many photos of Ruiz in various areas of Texas, that included the Pearl Springs area by the old Pearl Brewery Urban Reach, in San Antonio Riverwalk, and the Green Lagood Urban Reach, in addition to the Alamo water fly by the Hyatt. Boxing Results from Japan!

(AUG 25)  On Saturday night in Osaka, Japan, 
Strawweight Etsuko Tada, 103¾, of Japan, won a 10-round unanimous decision over Yani Kokietgym, 103, of Thailand.  Tada successfully defended her WBA Strawweight title--but not without controversy.  WBAN was told that the victory was a controversial win, and that Kokietgym was very effectively aggressive during the fight.  Final judges scores: 93-97,  94-96,and 94-96.  All judges were Koreans. The Tada-Kokiegym bout was televised.   Full Story

(AUG 24) On Saturday night at the Chaifetz, in St. Louis, Missouri, four-time world champion Hollie "Hotstuff" Dunaway, 105, fought and defeated Mayela "La Cobrita" Perez, 106, to a six-round unanimous decision. The contract weight for the bout was 108 lbs.   Full Story

(AUG 6) WBAN received an opportunity to view the film documentary, 'After the Last Round' this week. The film features in part of the segments throughout the film, female boxer and multi-world champion Kelsey Jeffries. Jeffries is a veteran in the sport with over 50 professional fights. She is also, the only female boxer in the sport who has been picked two years in a row as WBAN's "Fighter of the Year" [2003, 2004].  Full Story

(AUG 3) On Friday night at the Saith Park, in Trinidad and Tobago,  Ria Ramnarine won by a split decision (Technical Decision after a headbutt) against Ana Fernandez.  Ramnarine won the interim WBA Strawweight title. The fight came to an end after the ninth, and the judges went to the scorecards. There was immediate controversy in regards to this fight in the local news media..Full Story
