(FEB 18) On February 16th, at the Harrah’s, in Kansas City, Missouri, there was a night of action in women’s boxing. In the main event, Hollie Dunaway won a 10-round unanimous decision over Melissa Shaffer. When the winner was announced, there was some confusion, when the ring announcer, said that their was a “new WIBA World Minimumweight champion.” Shaffer briefly celebrated the announcement, thinking that she had won the title. (FEB 3) Tonight in Detroit, Michigan, Mary Jo Sanders, 147, of Michigan, successfully defended her WBC title, when she stopped Iva Weston, 144.5, by TKO in the third round. The fight was televised on ESPN2. WBAN did not even have Weston ranked, and after seeing her fight tonight-rightfully so.
