Begins Today: Ninth Edition of Women's European Elite Championships Open in Bucharest, Romania

(MAY 31)  The ninth edition of the European Women’s Elite Championships gets underway this weekend at the Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest. Romania. (May 31st-June 7th Inc). The 2014 EUBC tournament will also act as a qualifier for the inaugural 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, as confirmed by EUBC President Franco Falcinelli who said: “After the success of the previous eight European Women’s Editions, it is my pleasure that the Romanian Boxing Federation will be hosting this important EUBC event ..Full Story

Female flyweight Marlen Esparza (Houston, Texas), male lightweight Genaro Gamez (San Diego, Calif.), female lightweight Melissa Parker (Fountain, Colo.), male light welterweight Abraham Nova (San Diego, Calif.), male welterweight Jose Alday (Odessa, Texas), female middleweight Claressa Shields (Flint, Mich.), and male super heavyweight Cam F. Tonight in Argentina:  Maria Maderna to fight Angela Mariales

(MAY 30) Tonight at the Auditorio Presidente Néstor Kirchner, Mercado Central, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Maria Maderna, 12-8-3 (1KO), will be fighting Angela Marchieles in a ten-round in the lightweight division.  Maderna will be defending her WBO Lightweight title.

(MAY 29) Kristy Harris, Shelley Watts and Kaye Scott are among the 11 boxers named in the Australian team today by the Australian Commonwealth Games Association. Women’s boxing will be contested for the first time in Games’ history in Glasgow.  Women’s boxing made its Olympic debut with Australia sending only one athlete to the London 2012 Olympic Games. Glasgow 2014 will offer women the opportunity to contest medals in three weight categories – 51kg, 60kg and 75kg.  Full Story

(MAY 23) Tonight at the Tijuana Municipal Auditorium, in Tijuana, Mexico, in the co-main,  Jackie Nava will be making an effort to win a WBA Super Bantamweight belt against Alys Sanchez of Venezuela.  In a second co-main on the card, David "Tornado" Sanchez of Mexico will fight Breilor Terna, of Venezuela, for the WBA Superflyweight title.

(MAY 22) WBAN is excited to announce that ALL of the inductees WILL be present at the history-first for the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame.  We just confirmed the last two for the induction ceremony.  Germany's boxing star Regina Halmich and her father will be flying in from Germany to be at the event.  Lucia Rijker will also be flying in to be at the event.  ..Full Story

(MAY 16) Bonnie Canino spent so many years in the ring, she lost count of how many black eyes she had.  But she definitely remembers the first.
“I was four, and I got my first one fighting against my brother,” she recalled.
