It has been announced that Leah Mellinger,
IFBA Junior Welterweight boxing
champion, and manager / trainer Terry Nye are severing their professional
relationship after seven years.
This announcement comes as Mellinger prepares to defend her title against
Las Vegas’ Hannah Fox on June 11 in Bossier City, Louisiana.
"As trainer and manager, I have certain standards which need to be met in
order for my fighter to maintain peak performance" said Nye. "Recently,
Leah has elected to break training to pursue her private life, and it was
obvious that these standards were not being met. Thus I had no choice but
to dissolve the relationship."
Nye, who in his seven years with Mellinger has led her to the pinnacle of
the sport of women’s boxing, also states that Mellinger will fulfill all of
her previously contracted duties, which include the Fox fight on June 11, a
fight with Daniëlla Somers on July 9, and a
bout against an undetermined
opponent in South Dakota in August.
Mellinger has opted to assume all managerial duties as well as train
herself.
(The July rematch with Somers was later cancelled). |
