One on One Interview
with Yvonne Trevino

by the WBAN Roaming Reporter

Suzanne Riccio-Major the next day.

RR: What do you want to still get out of your boxing career - now - as you were (and still are in many fans' minds) a boxing star and champ?  Where do you go from here? Why do you still want to actively compete?

TREVINO: After six years in the business, I'd like to enjoy some of the financial gains that are out there. I love fighting, competing in other sports, modeling and even acting (if those opportunities present themselves). I love the challenge of competing.

RR:  Would you now and how would you encourage other females-both amateur/pro-to enter the Ring?

TREVINO:  I think it's great that so many girls have chosen to go into boxing, but I wish the new girls would concentrate less on getting an unblemished record and focus more on facing better opposition. You need to fight good opposition in order to grow and develop as a boxer. They have to learn to eat right, get enough sleep and train hard. It's important for them to always project a positive image to other young girls wanting to get into the sport.

RR:  What will you do after your active inside-the-ring career ends? Will you stay with boxing (managing , coaching others, etc.)?

TREVINO:   If I found a really talented prospect (after I retire) I would consider training or managing her.

RR:  What/Where would you "ideally" like Female Boxing to go now and in the immediate future?

TREVINO:  I would like to see the girls start to earn more money. That will enable them to get better training, better sparring partners and all that. I'd also like to see more of the girls doing endorsements and commercials. Of course I'd also like to see the sport get more exposure nationally.

RR:  Besides yourself, which female boxers do you like to see (who are "entertaining" to watch/good fighters/boxers-style, etc.) and Why?

TREVINO:   I admire Lucia Rijker.   She was one of my favorite fellow kickboxers.

RR:  Which "new" female fighters do you see becoming Female Fighting Stars in the future?

TREVINO:   I can't predict that because I haven't seen enough of them to judge.

RR:  Whom do you want to now fight? and Why? Any "grudge" matches?  Anyone  you want or wanted to fight-who is still "ducking" You? and Why do you  believe that is true?

TREVINO:   I want rematches with Para Draine, Kathy Williams and Bridgett Riley. Those three are on my list for obvious reasons. Then I want to fight whoever the public considers to be the best in my weight division.

RR:  Where do you see the Sport of Female Boxing going as to its  growth/popularity in a one year or in 3/5 years?

TREVINO:   I just hope that it reaches the same level as male boxing.

*Sue TL Fox would like to thank Trevino for taking the time to be interviewed by WBAN's "Roaming Reporter"!
