5'0" straw-weight/flyweight Sarah "Thrilla from Manila" Goodson was born Sarah Ann Rama on September 7, 1973  in Lomboy, Cebu City in the Philippines. She now lives in Paris, Arkansas. Her boxer husband Stacy "Goodnight" Goodson is also her manager. Sarah began her pro career under the name Sarah Jones Rama.

She made her debut on June 11, 1999 at Casino Magic in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, weighing in at 104 lbs and losing by a TKO 1:27 into the first round against Nina Ahlin (100 lbs) of Atlanta, Georgia, who improved to 3-0-1 (2 KO's) with the win.

On October 3, 1999 at Lady Luck Casino in Lula, Mississippi, Sarah (114 lbs) was knocked out at 1:22 in the second round by Pamela Barker (115 lbs) of Las Vegas, who improved to 5-1-0. (3 KO's).

On November 26, 1999 at the Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana, Nina Ahlin (96 lbs) of Atlanta moved her record to 5-1-1 (2 KO's) with a four-round unanimous decision over Sarah (98 lbs). According to local reports, Ahlin showed superior boxing skills in winning the decision 40-36 on all cards. Goodson swung wildly with her right for most of the bout while Ahlin countered with effective combinations to the head.

On December 10, 1999 at the Grand Casino in Tunica, Mississippi, Darla Leopold (5'3", 108 lbs) improved her record to 1-1 with a 4-round unanimous decision over Sarah (106 lbs). A Women's Boxing Page correspondent told me that Goodson was able to control the fight when she used her jab, but that Leopold, a 52 year old former Tough Woman contestant, was too busy and wild for Goodson to handle overall.

On January 14, 2000 at the Beaumont Club in Kansas City, Missouri, Deanna "Dynamite" Nance (100 lbs) of Gore, Oklahoma won a four-round unanimous decision over Sarah (100 lbs). According to a ringside reporter, it was "a good action fight controlled by Nance as Goodson displayed a limited offensive arsenal ... primarily a right hook to the body, which Nance absorbed easily. Both fighters used few combinations, relying on single jabs or hooks." Nance was the runner-up in the 100-lb division at the 1999 National Golden Gloves tournament in August 1999, and this fight was her pro debut.

On February 18, 2000 at the Burlington Memorial Auditorium in Burlington, Iowa, Deanna Nance (99 lbs) won a four-round majority decision over Sarah (100 lbs). Nance and Goodson went after each other from bell to bell in a fight that a local reporter Susan Denk described as having more punches than the other five (men's) fights combined.

On February 25, 2000 at Veteran's Coliseum in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Deanna Nance (99 lbs) won another four-round majority decision over Sarah (100 lbs).

On April 5, 2000 at Station Casino in Kansas City, Missouri, Susan Nance (115 lbs) of Gore, Oklahoma won her pro debut with a six-round unanimous decision over Sarah (105 lbs). This bout is sometimes listed as an exhibition.

On April 28, 2000 at Ben Hur Shrine Temple in Austin, Texas, Juana "Jay" Vega (105½ lbs) of Austin won her pro debut with a four-round unanimous decision over Sarah (105 lbs) who fell to 0-8-1. A local report says that Vega continually locked Goodson with the left arm while using her right to land shots to the head.

On May 26, 2000 at the Pavilion on Logan Woods in Kansas City, Missouri, Sarah (105 lbs) notched her first pro win with a second-round TKO of debut fighter Crystal Parker (106 lbs) of Little Rock, Arkansas.

On June 2, 2000 at the Grand Victoria Casino in Rising Sun, Indiana, Sarah (101 lbs) won a four-round majority decision over Deanna Nance (99 lbs) who fell to 3-1-0.

On June 24, 2000 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Sarah won a four-round decision over 5'5" debut fighter Lonita Dow of Coal Hill, Arkansas.

On July 15, 2000 at the Fairgrounds in Manchester, Iowa, Sarah (103 lbs) won by a TKO over Crystal Parker (107 lbs) when Parker retired at the end of the second round.  Parker fell to 0-2.

On August 4, 2000 at Ben Hur Shrine Temple in Austin, Texas, Juana "Jay" Vega (108 lbs) of Austin won a clear (40-36 on all cards) four-round unanimous decision over Sarah (105½ lbs) in a rematch. Goodson was now 0-9-1. Vega improved to 2-0.

On January 19, 2001 at Casino Magic, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, Nina Ahlin (100 lbs) of Atlanta moved her pro record to 7-2-1, (2 KO's) with a unanimous (60-54,59-55,59-55) six-round decision over Sarah (100 lbs).

On April 12, 2001 at the Hyatt-Regency in Atlanta, Georgia, Nina Ahlin moved to 8-2-1 (2 KO's) with a six-round unanimous (60-54 x 3) decision over Sarah. Goodson showed little defense and threw many lunging rights in her second bout of the year against the polished Ahlin. Ahlin did a dance routine in the ring with her fellow Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders after the bout.

On March 1, 2002 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Sarah advanced to 5-12-1 with a four-round decision over Stephanie Dobbs of Moore, Oklahoma. This was Dobbs's pro debut.

On May 7, 2002 in Little Rock, Arkansas, Sarah (105 lbs) won a four-round bout over debut fighter Melissa Shaffer (95½ lbs) of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Goodson had been scheduled to fight Denise Mullins (1-1-0) on this card and the substitute bout was not sanctioned by ABC so it was officially an exhibition.

On June 15, 2002 at Sky Ute Casino, Ignacio, Colorado: Vaia Zaganas (103½ lbs) of Burnaby, BC, Canada won by TKO over Sarah (104 lbs) at 0:36 in the eighth round for the vacant IFBA Strawweight title. Goodson was outskilled by the 2001 Canadian amateur 45-kg champion (31-4 amateur record), who was usually able to block or slip her wild haymakers. Goodson had points deducted for illegal tactics (holding and wrestling) in the third and eighth rounds. She spit out her mouthpiece and left the ring when the second point was taken away.  That snme right hand had swollen Vaia's eye shut." Zaganas, who was now fighting out of Las Vegas, ended the scheduled twelve-round bout with a goose-egg over her left eye but she had acquired the IFBA belt and a 5-1-0 (3 KO) pro record as Goodson fell to 5-12-1.

On June 14, 2003 at World Class Fitness Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Sarah (116 lbs) returned to the ring after having a baby in the Spring and won a four-round decision over unranked Nikki Verbeck (110 lbs) of Paris, Arkansas. Verbeck fell to 0-5.

On June 28, 2003 at Farmer's Market, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA: Sarah (114 lbs) advanced to 7-12-1 (2 KO) with another four-round unanimous decision over Nikki Verbeck (106 lbs) who was now 0-6-0.

On July 25, 2003 at Creek Nation Gaming Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, Vaia Zaganas (105 lbs) of Burnaby, BC, Canada won a six-round unanimous (60-54,60-54,59-55) decision over Sarah (106 lbs) in a shorter rematch of their IFBA title fight. Zaganas controlled the bout with her well-honed boxing skills but Goodson hung in trying for a power punch that might turn the fight around. Zaganas, who trained in Las Vegas was now 10-2-0 (4 KO) while Goodson fell to 7-13-1 (2 KO).

On October 4, 2003 at World Class Fitness Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Sarah (108 lbs) won a four-round unanimous decision over debut fighter Julianna Hamil (118 lbs).

On November 22, 2003 at Caesars Tahoe in Stateline, Nevada, USA, Vaia Zaganas (105 lbs) from Burnaby, British Columbia won another six-round unanimous (60-54 x 3) decision over Sarah (106 lbs). According to my correspondent Goodson spent this fight throwing roundhouses that were more like slaps while Zaganas worked her jabs and combinations inside Goodson's wild swings. Zaganas improved her pro record to 14-2-0 (6 KO) while Goodson slipped to 8-14-1 (2 KO) with her third loss to Zaganas. Goodson was a late substitute for Stephanie Dobbs, who had been TKO'd by Sachiyo Shibata on Nov. 15 and was therefore under a suspension.
