(MAR 5) Houston's Marlen Esparza, the
youngest boxer on the U.S. national team, is finishing up training,
in anticipation of traveling back to the Olympic Training Center on
March 8, 2008, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Esparza will be competing for her number one ranking a third time in
a U.S. championship. Esparza is currently number one in the nation
and number three in the world.
This time around, Esparza will be taking along her Houston teammate
Sylvia Villapondo. This will be Sylvia's first senior division
national tournament where she qualified through regional and state
tournament at 101 pounds to make it to the national tournament.
Sylvia plans to make a big impact and
show the nation how good she is and how training and sparring along
side Marlen Esparza has really raised her boxing competition level.
