(FEB 20) Last night on the Amir Khan-Kell Brook boxing card, held in Manchester, 37-year-old Natasha Jonas finally fulfilled her dream to become a world champion. In order to have this challenge she needed to move up three weight classes to fight Uruguay’s Chris Namus. The two were fighting for the vacant WBO Super-welterweight title. Namus was a late replacement for Jonas previous opponent, due to Covid.

In the first round at the beginning they both were cautious, throwing a punch, here and there, but then Jonas drops Namus to the canvass, taking an eight-count by the ref. Namus wobbles to her corner.

The fight did not take long, with Jonas stopping Namus in the second round. Jonas came out in the second with a barrage of punches, and Namus goes down again. She receives an eight-count, but then the Ref stops the fight, with Namus shaking no with her head. See Video attached.

Jonas dedicated her win to her young daughter and to trainer Joe Gallagher and her entire team.

Jonas had expressed that she knew her boxing career was on the line, and she wanted to make sure she gave it all in this bout last night. It is not sure if Jonas will continue to fight as a super welterweight---but she achieved her dream of becoming a world champion.
