(MAR 29)  Cindy Serrano and Fatuma Zarika battled to a six round draw in the co-main event of New Legend's sixteenth International Fight Night, a nine bout card Saturday night at Resorts World Casino in the borough of Queens, in the city of New York. The three judges' scorecards reflected, accurately, just how close the bout was: Jim Pierce had it 58-56, Serrano, Ron McNair 58-56, Zarika and Robin Taylor accentuated the evenness of the bout with a 57-57 count. Those are essentially the basic facts of the penultimate bout of the evening, but the back story of the fight properly adheres to a couple of long time boxing adages....Full Story

Jelena Mrdjenovich TKO'd Francia Bravo in Panama

(MAR 28) Last night at the Hotel Sortis, in Panama City, Panama, Jelena Mrdjenovich, 126, of Edmonton, Canada, won by a ninth round TKO over Francia Bravo, 125, of Cerete, Colombia.   Mrdjenovich was defending her WBC Featherweight World Title in this ten round scheduled bout.

(MAR 25)  Today, 500 days from Rio 2016, WBAN would like to offer an ‘open’ invitation to AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu to outline for us the AIBA’s plans for women’s boxing in the period between now and 2020.
Over the past several years, WBAN has devoted extensive coverage of AIBA tournaments, large and small, in the same way we have covered the Pro.sport. Both ‘Amateurs’ and Pros’ alike share common aims. Each has a significant role to play in the ‘boxing of the future’ thus anything that can be done to assist must surely be welcomed by all existing Professional bodies and by the AIBA.  Full Story

Amanda Serrano Wins by a Third Round TKO

(FEB 22) Last night at the Sosua Convention Center, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, in the main event, Amanda Serrano, 129,  won by TKO3 over  Marisol Reyes, 130,  in an eight rounder.   Not a pretty fight, with after Marisol getting hit chose to hold on, getting 2 points deducted in the 2nd with a warning to be disqualified. In the third after a barrage of punches the ref stopped the fight.

(FEB 14) Last night at the Five Star Banquet Hall, in Queens, New York, Susan Reno, 106.8, of New York, and Paola Ortiz, 107.4, Houston, Texas fought to a four-round majority draw.  The card was promoted by Uprising Promotions.  The judges scores were 38-38, 38-38, and 39-37.  In addition to one female bout on the card, there were six men's bouts.

Gogarty to be Inducted into IWBHF 2015 Class

(FEB 3)  Deirdre Gogarty, who in the last decade of the previous century, showed the way forward for female boxers in Ireland, has been selected for induction into the 2015 class of the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame along with seven luminaries from the sport. Entering the Hall on July 11, along with Gogarty, are former "modern era" boxers, Laila Ali, Laura Serrano, Jeannine Garside, Ann Wolfe and Terri Moss. Also in the 2015 class are Sparkle Lee, the first female referee appointed to the NY State Athletic Commission and Phyliss Kugler (posthumous) a pioneer female boxer in the 1950s. AIBA Headgear Rule Poll

(FEB 2) In 2013, the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) introduced a rule that required male- senior boxers to remove headgear during fights. This rule change has been controversial due to the potential dangers this may incur. AIBA has claimed this will improve safety for the boxers. First Female Bout in 2015 in Mexico?

(JAN 2, 2015) Last night on Thursday night, (January 1) the first reported female bout of the year took place at the  Gimnasio Municipal, Mexicali, Mexico, between Kareli Lopez, of Sinaloa, Mexico, vs. Brenda "La Bonita" Flores, of Tijuana, Mexico,  for a local vacant title, in a 10-rounder.  Lopez won by a close majority decision.  Lopez improved her record to 6-5-3 (1KO), and Flores, 7-3-1.

(JAN 2) In what should be a very good matchup between two great female boxers, On January 9th,  Jolene Blackshear will rematch Maria Suarez in a six rounder at the Chumash Casino, in Santa Ynez, California.  In their first fight Suarez won the six-rounder by a unanimous decision.  Blackshear will get an opportunity to revenge that loss!!
