(MAR 26) Team USA picked up another three victories and secured at least two bronze medals during the second day of boxing at the 2022 AMBC Elite Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Jennifer Lozano (Lareado, Texas) put on a dominating performance in her international debut to take all five judges’ cards over Colombia’s Liliana Murillo Deicy to guarantee her first international medal. Lozano will have a couple days of rest before stepping into the ring with Genesis Gomez of Ecuador, who finished fifth at last year’s Youth World Championships, on Monday.

Flyweight Kayla Gomez (El Paso, Texas) made her own impressive elite international debut in the evening session against Valeria Cardenas Abarca of Costa Rica. Gomez gave her opponent a standing eight count in route to her unanimous decision. The 2021 Junior Pan American Games gold medalist has clinched at least a bronze medal and will look to advance to the finals on Monday with a victory over Ingrit Lorena Valencia, two-time Olympian and 2016 Olympic bronze medalist, from Colombia.

2021 USA Boxing National Champion Amelia Moore (Colorado Springs, Colo.) closed out the day on a high note for USA Boxing. Moore controlled all three rounds of the bout to take all five judges’ cards against Fernanda Centeno of Honduras. Moore will be back in the ring on Monday for a quarterfinal matchup with 2020 Olympian and 2019 Pan American Games bronze medalists Yeni Arias of Colombia.

Middleweight Naomi Graham (Fayetteville, N.C.) once again met a familiar opponent in her opening bout, Tammara Thibeault of Canada. The 2020 Olympian put on a strong performance, however, could not take the judges’ cards, falling short in a 4-1 decision.

Gomez and Lozano join three other Americans in the medal rounds, Rashida Ellis (Lynn, Mass.), Jajaira Gonzalez (Glendora, Calif.) and Jamar Talley (Camden, N.J.).

Four boxers will make their tournament debuts tomorrow, Obed Bartee-El (Harvest, Ala.), Roscoe Hill (Spring, Texas), Arjan Iseni (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Omari Jones (Orlando, Fla.). Complete schedule for their bouts tomorrow can be seen below, as well as followed along here.
