Boxing has always been a sport
that’s been popular with those that enjoy placing wagers bets on
competitive events. So, with the rise to prominence of women’s
boxing, demand for betting markets for their bouts has also
increased.
In the coming months, we’ll see many of these legendary boxers
compete in bouts across the globe. From clashes in Colombia to
bouts in Birmingham, there will be action wherever you look.
The Commonwealth Games
The Commonwealth Games are a multi-discipline athletics
tournament similar to the Olympics but for the countries that
make up The Commonwealth of Nations. It’ll see countries like
the UK, Canada, Australia, Barbados, Cyprus, Ghana, Kenya, and
South Africa.
Women’s boxing will be a big event at this year’s Commonwealth
Games in Birmingham, England. Matches will be taking place from
late July through to early August,
covering almost the entire duration of the tournament.
Since the boxers taking part will be those yet to turn pro, it
will be a great opportunity to spot upcoming fighters that
you’re likely to see on stage at major events in Vegas in the
coming years.
Cecilia Braekhus vs. Patricia Berghult
A few weeks after the Commonwealth Games, Cecilia Braekhus and
Patricia Berghult will go toe-to-toe for ten rounds in
Berghult’s WBC women’s junior middleweight title. The fight will
take place in Cali, Colombia and will be one of three major
events on the card that night.
Braekhus is a 40-year-old fighter from Norway who has broken a
long list of world records throughout her career. She is a
welterweight fighter and reigned as the undisputed champion in
that weight class from 2014 to 2020.
Her opponent, Berghult, is a younger fighter who has seen
success in both light-welterweight and light-middleweight
classes. At 28, she’s 12 years younger than Braekhus, which
could be a big advantage in the ring.
Originally from Malmo, Sweden, Berghult has been undefeated
since turning professional in 2015. On the other hand, Braekhus
has had two losses during her career, but she’s competed in more
than twice as many matches. Those two losses were to Jessica
McCaskill in August 2020 and March 2021, so she’ll have a lot to
prove when she gets in the ring later this summer.
