The Women Boxers to Watch out for at the 2022 Commonwealth Games
July 26, 2022

(JULY 26) As a core sport, boxing has been a part of the Commonwealth Games since the very first edition back in 1930. Competition returns at Birmingham in 2022 and the women’s section continues to develop.

Some of the amateurs on show will progress to become quality professional fighters and here are some names to look out for this year.

Sameenah Toussaint: England

English boxers dominate the overall medal table and, while their male counterparts help to boost the tally, the women have enjoyed more than their fair share of glory. In 2022, Sameenah Toussaint is tipped for a productive tournament after being involved with the sport for most of her young life.

It’s being widely reported that Toussaint was taken down to the gym by her father after he was inspired by Nicola Adams’ breakthrough at the 2012 London Olympics. She was a reluctant participant at first but has now embraced the sport to great effect.

At the age of 19, Toussaint has a bronze medal in the flyweight division from the 2022 Under 22 European Championships and she’s aiming for an upgrade at the Commonwealth Games.

Lovlina Borgohain: India

India have been a competitive nation in women’s boxing and female fighters have been picking up medals at the Summer Olympics. Of the competitors taking part in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Lovlina Borgohain could be worth considering in terms of a gold medal.

In a much wider competition, she won a bronze medal from the Tokyo Olympics last year. She’s only the second Indian female boxer to achieve that feat behind Mary Kom.

Competing in the 70kg category, there is interest in Borgohain from a betting point of view.

All women’s categories for Birmingham 2022 will be covered and Lovlina Borgohain features very strongly in her event. As competition gets underway, the odds will switch to the live section of each sportsbook and they will remain in place until the winners are decided.

Visitors to the Sbo.net website can take time to assess the numbers. There will also be breaking news stories, blog posts and reviews of each operator. Readers can also get directly involved if they wish to do so. Each of the sportsbooks linking into here will accept new customers and many publish generous welcome promotions.

Once the sign up and verification process is complete, a range of deposit options will be in place when it comes to the funding stage. Customer services can assist at any point and there are additional benefits moving forward.

Mobile betting via an app, ongoing promotions and live streaming may also be accessible. It’s the one-stop shop for Commonwealth Games boxing betting and there is a lot of interest in India’s Lovlina Borgohain.

Caitlin Parker: Australia

Australian fighters showed strongly in their home, Gold Coast Games of 2018. It’s a sport that is gaining solid momentum across the country and Aussie athletes are expected to be in contention once again.

In that 2018 competition, Caitlin Parker won a silver medal in the 75kg category and she’ll be looking to go one better this time around. She also competed at the Tokyo Olympics and, while she didn’t make an impression in Japan, Parker should certainly be among the medals in Birmingham.

Nikhat Zareen: India

There is real depth to this Indian Commonwealth Games squad and Nikhat Zareen is another boxer hoping to add to the haul of medals at Birmingham 2022. She is the reigning world champion in the 50kg division and should come through in a weakened field in the UK.

Despite a long career at international level, Zareen is still only 26 and is coming into her prime years as a boxer. Victory at the Istanbul World Championships will give her supreme confidence and she is very much the fighter to beat in this category.

There are many more contenders in what should be the most competitive Commonwealth Games yet. It’s another great showcase for women’s boxing and the four fighters on this list should be looking to go deep into their respective categories.
