Some of The Best British Women Boxers
October 18, 2022

When it comes to regions that have produced some real quality boxers throughout the years, Great Britain is right up there. The island, which is made up of the nations of England, Scotland and Wales is filled with boxing pedigree, and is actually the home of the Queensbury Rules, which are seen as the inception of modern-day boxing.

This passion for the sport has now worked its way to women’s boxing, with there being many exceptional British born female athletes who have stepped into the ring. So, let’s celebrate some of the biggest names that have had an impact on the world of boxing then, as we list our top picks for the best of the best British women boxers. Make sure to check out many of their fights’ highlights once you’ve made your way through the five movies women boxers would love women boxers would love to watch.

Nicola Adams

Despite reports of women’s boxing in Britain going back as far as 1710, due to it being outlawed for so long, it took until the 21st century for it to be truly put on the map. Thankfully the powers that be had some sense knocked into their heads in 1996, when they lifted their 116-year ban on women competing in the sport. It took until the 2012 Olympic Games, which were suitably held in London, for it to capture the masses’ attention though.

It was Nicola Adams who achieved national hero status at that event, when she became the first female boxer to ever become an Olympic champion. The Leeds born star quickly became revered, with the only thing seeming bigger than her smile, which were her punches. She then impressively fought her way to another gold medal four years later, at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. Adams then turned professional in 2017 before, unfortunately, retiring just three years later due to a potentially nasty eye injury.

Nevertheless, in just that short period of time, Adams managed to go undefeated in all six of her matches, winning five of them. She was also holder of the WBO female flyweight title when she was forced to hang up her gloves. However, the now 40-year-old remains a TV personality, and is much loved for her enthusiastic attitude.

Chantelle Cameron

Hailing from Northampton, Chantelle Cameron has remarkably been a world champion in two weight classes; light-welterweight, with her currently holding the WBC female light-welterweight title, and she was also the IBO female lightweight champion between 2017 and 2019. She turned professional in 2017, and amazingly has gone undefeated in all 16 of her successive fights.

People from all around the world have begun to tune into women’s boxing, because of exciting narratives such as Cameron’s undefeated streak, and the burgeoning skills on show. It’s also becoming a huge hit with bettors in many countries, including in Southeast Asia, where combat sports are particularly popular.

This is reflected by Asiabet, who have rounded up all the most reliable online sports betting websites, known in Thailand as พนันกีฬาออนไลน์. Each online bookmaker perfectly caters to Thai citizens, and allows them to bet on boxing, along with all their other favourite sports, and because each chosen site is safe and secure, visitors don’t need to worry about getting ripped off. Plus, there’s also a whole range of generous bonus offers available, including tantalising free bets.

Terri Harper

Born and raised in the village of Denaby Main, in South Yorkshire, Terri Harper has become not just a local legend, but also solidified herself as a real contemporary force in women’s boxing. She got into the sport at age 12, after watching a celebrity boxing match on TV, and quickly found she had a real knack for it. This resulted in her capturing the silver at the 2012 European Junior Championships.

In spite of her obvious talents, Harper took time away from the ring to focus on her education, and actually had to be talked back into returning by a passionate boxing promoter. Thankfully though, she made the right decision, and she got her professional career off to a winning start in late 2017. She then went on a stunning 12 fight unbeaten streak, winning 11 of them, and only tasted defeat for the first time against Alycia Baumgardner in late 2021.

Currently the WBO and IBO Super-Welterweight champion, the future certainly looks blindingly bright for the now 25-year-old.
