(DEC 13) On December 11, 2022, Ring 8 paid tribute to “women of boxing”, at the 35th Ring 8 Holiday Event and Awards Ceremony, highlighted by celebrated honorees Christy Martin and Katie Taylor, at the Russ’s On The Bay in Howard, Beach New York. A huge thank you for Peter Frutkoff, photographer of all the photos on this article, and V.B.A. Ring 8 and Bob Duffy!

The award recipients were the following: Boxing Legend: Christy Martin; Boxer of the Year: Katie Taylor; Prospect of the Year: Cesar Francis; Humanitarian Award: Jeanette Salazar; Sam Kellerman Media Award: Ron Borges; Long & Meritorious Service Award: Ed Post; Uncrowned Champion Award: Kevin Moley; Trainer of the Year: Aureliano Sosa; Professional Official of the Year: Ricky Gonzalez; Amateur Official of the Year: Deni Auclair; Good Guy Award: Michael “Mickey” Pickford; Budd Schulberg Award: Dave Schuster; Patrick Day Sports; and Achievement Award: Timothy Mertens.

Special recognition was to Lisa Holewyne, Malissa Smith, Sonya Lamonakis, Kisha Snow-Daud, Jill Diamond, and Emily Harney.

Malissa Smith said, "Absolutely an honor to be recognized with these incredible women in #boxing."

Lisa Holewyne said, "This was a sorority of agroup of  retired female fighters and more with absolutely that shared experiences, and no ego. We were all laughing and joking and having a really good time.  I had no idea that we were going to be awarded also.  We would have never had this if it had not been for WBAN because we would not have had any press to have known of each other."

Formed in 1954 by an ex-prizefighter, Jack Grebelsky, Ring 8 became the eighth subsidiary of what was then known as the National Veteran Boxers Association — hence, RING “8″ — and today the organization’s motto remains: Boxers Helping Boxers.
