(MAY 6) This last weekend, on Saturday night, in
Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the Estadio F.A.B. the event featured three female bouts. This night not only highlighted
their skills but also underscored the growing prominence of female boxing in
Argentina.
The main event of the evening featured a ten-round contest between Anahi Ester Sanchez and Aldana Pons, both vying for the
South American Super Lightweight title as well as the Argentinean Super
Lightweight title.
Sanchez
ultimately emerged victorious through a split decision after a ten
rounder. The judges scored the bout 94-96, 96-94, and 97-93. This victory not only adds another feather
to Sanchez’s cap but also sets the stage for her future endeavors in the ring.
The second bout of the night featured Sofia Micaela Robles taking on Victoria
Liliana Benavidez in a four-round clash. Robles dominated the fight earning her
a unanimous decision victory.
The judges unanimously scored the fight in favor of Robles,
In the third bout, Daiana Jackeline Ortiz faced off against Sandra Villarual in
another four-round encounter. Ortiz,
quickly established control over the match. Ortiz won by a unanimous decision.
The three female bouts featured on this boxing card in Buenos Aires signify a
larger trend: the increasing visibility and support for women's boxing in
Argentina and across the globe.
As we reflect on this night of boxing, it becomes clear that female
fighters like Anahi Ester Sanchez, Sofia Micaela Robles, and Daiana Jackeline
Ortiz are trailblazers paving the
way for the next wave of women in sports.
