Opponent Change on July 11th Card at Madison Square Garden, in New York
June 6, 2025

(JUNE 6) The Women's bout scheduled on July 11th at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, has an opponent change for the Dina Thorslund vs. Shurretta Metcalf bout. The newly announced opponent will be the current WBA Bantamweight World champion, Cherneka “Sugar Neekz” Johnson. The two will be fighting for her WBA title, as well as the vacant WBO and WBC titles on the Undercard of the Trilogy of Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor.

According to ESPN’s news story, Thorslund is voluntarily relinquishing her WBO title. Thorslund had to cancel out due to finding out she is pregnant.

Johnson said, "It's a dream come true to fight at Madison Square Garden!.  This feels like a true 'pinch me' moment, being part of an all-women's card headlined by the incredible Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor. Not only will I be defending my title, but I'll also become the undisputed champion! I'm truly looking forward to this next chapter -- being part of Most Valuable Promotions, who are paving the way and shaping the future of women's boxing."

Dina Thorslund's decision to pull out of the bout comes with heartfelt circumstances; she recently learned that she is pregnant. The news has brought immense joy to Thorslund and her family.
