(MAR 8) Legendary Marian "Lady Tyger" Trimiar, a true pioneer
and GWOAT (Greatest WOMEN of all time) of the 1970s and 80s, has officially received her WBAN
Mini-Belt from the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF) and WBAN. The belt
was hand-delivered today on a very special occasion—her birthday—by boxing
journalist
Christopher Benedict!

In 2023, the Women Boxing Archive Network (WBAN) and the IWBHF launched a new
initiative to recognize trailblazers who fought professionally before 2004.
During that era, female boxers were often denied opportunities, or the chance to compete for world
title belts. This mini-belt program ensures these athletes finally receive the
physical symbol of the excellence they brought to the ring.

A Legacy of "History-Firsts" of our World
champions that fought for the WBAN Belt!
Since its inception, the WBAN has been dedicated to filling the gaps in
recognition for women in the sport:
History-Firsts
of the WBAN Belt:
*History-First Independent P4P Belt for Female Boxers - 2004
*History-First WBAN Belt fought for in France
*History-First WBAN Belt Fought for in Sweden
*History-First WBAN Belt on Pay-Per-View in New Mexico 2008
• 2004: WBAN established the first-ever independent Pound-for-Pound (P4P) World
Title Belt specifically for female boxers, at a time when such honors were only
available to men.
• 2008: The first WBAN belt was contested on a Pay-Per-View stage in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, in a historic bout between
Holly Holm and
Chevelle Hallback.
.
• Global Reach: Since then, the belt has made history with first-time title
fights in France and Sweden.

A massive congratulations to Lady Tyger Trimiar on this long-overdue honor, and
the happiest of birthdays to a woman who truly paved the way for everyone in the
sport today!
