Colorado Golden Gloves Hall of Famer - Chantel Cordova made history as the first in the U.S. Women's National Amateurs
October 19, 2026

(OCT 19) DENVER, CO — Colorado boxing pioneer Chantel Cordova continues to be recognized as a premier force in combat sports, with a historic legacy that spans an elite amateur run and a championship professional career. n a "Flash from the Past" Cordova was the first female boxer from Colorado to make the U.S. Women’s National Amateur Boxing Team and a recent 2024 Colorado Golden Gloves Hall of Fame inductee, Cordova remains a foundational figure for women in the ring.

Cordova’s captured back-to-back USA Boxing National Championships in 2005 and 2006. Competing in an era before women's boxing received widespread mainstream recognition, her consecutive national titles solidified her status as a true pioneer.

"Before women’s boxing had the recognition it deserved, I was already fighting for my place," said Cordova, who began her boxing journey at just 9 years old in the small town of Rocky Ford, Colorado. "In 2005, I made history as the first female boxer from Colorado to earn a spot on the U.S. Women’s National Amateur Boxing Team. I wasn’t just chasing titles. I was breaking barriers, chasing dreams, and proving that women belong in the ring, too. I didn’t know it then, but I was making history. And that little girl who started boxing at 9 years old would be so proud."

After compiling an outstanding amateur record of 31-5—ranking 2nd in the world and earning a silver medal at the Pan American Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina—Cordova  transitioned to the professional ranks. Fighting under the moniker "Gorgeous Babe" from 2006 to 2014, she amassed a 21-bout professional record (13-6-2) in the Super Flyweight division. Her professional career was highlighted by capturing the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) Super Flyweight Title in 2014 against Patricia Alcivar, as well as winning the GBU Belt.
