Featherweight Theresa Addison, 5’3” 122lbs,
born in Indianapolis, IN February 13, 1967. Theresa trains in Denver,
Colorado in two gyms, The Denver Police Brotherhood and Edge Boxing and
represents the Denver Sheriff Foundation. Theresa’s amateur career
started one day when her husband, Ralph, called to say that the Denver
Sheriff Department was accepting the challenge to meet the Aurora Police
Department for a local fight for Cops Fighting Cancer. Theresa asked if
civilian spouses could fight. Her fate was decided by that simple
question.
Theresa began training in earnest at Edge Boxing under the guidance of
Chad Kroupensky. It didn’t take long for her to fall in love with the
sport. Coming from an athletic family and having participated in sports
in High School, she knew the dedication necessary to make boxing a
priority.
“Making the decision to dedicate myself to the sport has caused me to
make many sacrifices to myself, my children, and my husband, but it is
all worth it in the end.”
Theresa made her amateur debut on June 5, 2008 with a win by decision in
a local police smoker. Her second fight was cancelled after her opponent
didn’t show for weigh in. However, on September 20, 2008 in her third
scheduled fight, she again won by decision.
“Beginning such a physically challenging sport at my age has made me
question my sanity at times but I look forward to each and every fight
as an opportunity to show myself and the world that age is definitely a
state of mind.”
On December 20, 2008, Theresa fought her hardest fight yet in a
re-match with Beth Fults. In a 4-1 split decision, Theresa won her
third fight of the year taking her record to 3 - 0. Training begins
in earnest after the first of the New Year with her sights on the
Ringside National Tournament in August.
