Doris Hackl, 5'9", 130 lbs, and a southpaw, who was born
June 23, 1969, in Graz, Austria. Hackl lives in Pugwash, Nova
Scotia, with her husband / Trainer Rudy Hackl. Hackl said, "In
the Year 1996 we immigrated to Canada where we previously had build our
house back then. I worked my regular profession. After we settled in
Canada, one day we went to see a boxing match. There was a famous
female boxer on the card, and my husband commented that the female boxer
would be too much for me---that insult from him is what triggered my
interest in the sport." Hackl went on to say, "I
thought about it in the back of my head. I knew that I had to prove
him wrong."
Hackl began her boxing career in the amateurs and accumulated a 17-0
record. Hackl is also a two-time Canadian Amateur champion. Hackl has
fought all over the world and has competed in: 1998 Two Times Ireland
versus Team Atlantic Commonwealth Games Boxing Trails; 1998 Canada Junior
Boxing Championship; 1998 Canadian Senior Boxing Championship in Edmonton,
Alberta; 1999 National Boxing Championship in Ontario, Canada; 1999 Canada
versus Sweden in Sudbury, Ontario; 1999 Canada versus Sweden in Toronto,
Canada.
Hackl has faced many hard challenges taking on the sport of boxing. But
her love for the sport keeps her in it and she will not be satisfied until
she is wearing a world champion belt. She stays lean and in shape by
running six miles a day, and works out six days a week.
Hackl said, "We traveled 75,000 miles in the past
three years for sparring three times a week to my Club in Halifax, each
trip 250 miles."
In 1999, was one of the toughest years that Hackl faced professional
and personally. Her husband's mother had passed away, she lost a dog
that she was very close to, and at the end of the year, her husband was
involved in a very serious accident on the job that nearly cost him
his life. Even though Hackl had these tragic incidences, she reflected,
"The old saying is if it doesn't kill you, it will make you much
stronger."
On May 19, 1999, Hackl received an award, for the Sport Nova Scotia,
Excellence in Amateur sports.
On May 20, 1999, Hackl made her
pro debut in Halifax, Nova Scotia winning by a majority decision over
1998/1997 US national amateur 125-lb champion Alicia Ashley.
Hackl is retired from boxing. |
