(MAR 18) Lemoore, CA-Another memorable bout
has been finalized for the historic HBO World Championship Boxing event
set for Saturday, April 19th at Fresno's Selland Arena. Local two-time
female world lightweight champion, Jenifer "All American" Alcorn
will be squaring off with one of women boxing's most visible superstars,
Mia St. John. An Official Press Conference, with the contract
signing is scheduled for Thursday, March 20th at 2PM inside The Sierra
Grille Restaurant at The Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore.

Alcorn,
(15-0, 10 KO's) and St. John (27-2-1, 13 KO's) will battle in an eight
round special attraction bout on the undercard of the first World
Championship Fight in Fresno history. WBC World Lightweight Champion,
Floyd Mayweather will take on aggressive slugger Victoriano Sosa of the
Dominican Republic. Mayweather's original opponent, Raul Balbi of
Argentina was shockingly defeated a week ago in a tune up bout and was
replaced by the explosive contender from the Dominican Republic. Sosa,
(35-2-2, 26 KO's) is riding a twelve fight winning streak and is a first
cousin of Major League.

Baseballs' Chicago Cub's baseball star, Sammy Sosa. In the evening's
Co-Main event, WBC International Champion and former Puerto Rico Olympic
Team member, Miguel Cotto (14-0, 11 KO's) will defend his title against
veteran prize fighter Joel Perez. Perez, (34-5-2, 20 KO's) provides
another tremendous challenge to Cotto, who has been labeled as "boxing's
next superstar Jenifer Alcorn, of Fresno is coming off a grueling ten
round decision victory over #1 contender, Jessica Rakoczy on
January 17th 2003.
That victory gave Alcorn the IWBF World Lightweight
Championship. Alcorn also holds the WIBF World Lightweight Championship.
Having fought the majority of her fights in California, Alcorn has now
emerged as one of women boxings biggest superstars and on April 19th
she'll need every ounce of her extraordinary strength and conditioning
when she faces the veteran,
St. John. Mia St. John, who gained world-wide
media attention after she was featured in the mens magazine, Playboy has
proven to be more than a pretty face after all. This past December she
challenged Christy Martin and gained a lot of respect in defeat as she
fought admirably in a ten round decision loss. Christy Martin has long
been regarded as the best women boxer in the history of the sport. St.
John brings the experience of of thirty professional bouts into this
showdown with boxing's newest superstar, Jenifer "All American" Alcorn.
Plus an additional fight has been added to
the ESPN2 Friday Night Fights show at The Palace on Friday April 18th.
Sumya Anani (21-1) will face Fredia Gibbs (9-1-1.) Gibbs and
Anani fought to a draw earlier last year. So this fight has the makings of
an all out war!
The card being presented by George Chung's American Champion Sports
Television, Bob Arum's Top Rank Boxing and The Palace Indian Gaming Center
will be broadcast to over eighty countries world-wide by HBO as part of
it's World Championship Boxing series. Tickets for this monumental night
of World
Championship Boxing are on sale now at The Palace Indian Gaming Center,
all Ticketmaster locations and at The Selland Arena Box Office. Tickets
are priced from $25 to $300. A special incentive exists at local
retailers, as the Pepsi Cola Company will be offering $5.00 rebate
stickers on select Pepsi products throughout the Central Valley. These
rebates can only be
redeemed at The Selland Arena Box Office.
