The Augusta Recreation and Parks Department would like to announce that Augusta has been awarded the East Coast Silver Gloves Championships set for January 3,4,5, 2008 at the May Park Community Center, 4th Street, Augusta, Georgia.

Champions from 8 East Coast States - age 10 - 15 - boys and girls will compete for the right to represent the East Coast in the National Silver Gloves in Kansas in February 2008.

This will mark the 18th consecutive year the event has been held in Augusta. The event has brought in over $150,000 in economic impact to Augusta each of the last seventeen (17) years. Last year's event actually brought in $200,000.

"Augusta has shown its ability to host world class boxing events and the National Silver Gloves Association is very pleased to place this event in Augusta next year", stated Junious Hinton, East Coast Silver Gloves Chairman from Maryland. "

Tom Beck, Director of the Augusta Recreation and Parks Department stated "We at the Augusta Recreation and Parks Department are very excited about hosting these future Olympians. This tournament is another example of our continued commitment to our youth".

Headquarters hotel for the event is the Clarion Suites.
